Why exactly is starting pitching all of a sudden thin?
This announcement about Lance doesn't change anything. He hasn't thrown a single pitch this year.
Our pitching situation is the exact same as it was yesterday
The pitching has been thin for a month. A month ago a playoff caliber starter should have been considered and identified. They should have one traded for and on the team before the end of the month. The sooner the better. This isn't the year to wait until the end of a July.
I think when Lance went from hitting 93 & about to throw to live pitching to barely throwing on flat ground it signaled to the org that a 3/4 type would need to be added.
We have serviceable arms to get us to the deadline. We have 16 starts from France, Bielak, & Blanco and yet we're sitting pretty at #6 SP WAR, #2 SP ERA, #9 SP FIP, #5 SP xFIP, #6 SP SIERA, & #6 SP K/BB%.
Even if we didn't, its probably not worth the additional prospect capital to get a team to sell off 6 week early. The list of potential arms available at the deadline seems plentiful.
