To go with that pop time, Maldy does have the greatest range factor this season for a catcher, so we've got that going for us.

2.
Vzquez MIN

Chas hits a homer last night. Sits today. It's so predictable.

So Lance's injury is from February and not something newer then it makes me wonder if this was something they thought could heal itself, or it just wasn't diagnosed correctly at the time? Quite an escalation from a minor strain.

Looking for 4 tickets tonight if anybody is trying to get rid of some. Location doesnt matter.

You can't have Julks sitting for more than 1 game in a row. It'll throw off his confidence.

I was just joking around but looking at the lineups, Julks hasn't had 3 games off in a row all season long. He's only been off 2 games in a row 3x all season.

For comparison, Chas since he's come back has had 4 games off as well as 2 games off in a row twice.

Why exactly is starting pitching all of a sudden thin?

This announcement about Lance doesn't change anything. He hasn't thrown a single pitch this year.

Our pitching situation is the exact same as it was yesterday.

Looks like we have his services locked up until 2026 at $17 million per.

I actually agree. Lance was a lotto ticket. I just want to get Urquidy back and then add one extra arm.

I have confidence in a Framber-Javier 1-2 punch

Lance is not going to retire until after the 2026 season...when his contract expires.

same deal with Chris Sale, Stephen Strasburg, DeGrom, et al

no one is going to retire early with guaranteed millions and millions on their contract. They will show up to spring training on a stretcher to collect their paycheck.

it's another hazard of issuing mega-contracts

Again, I haven't had Beiber mentioned to me. I think that's a longshot.

Soler is a definite possibility but he wouldn't be a first or second choice. Robert is a new one.

The pitching has been thin for a month. A month ago a playoff caliber starter should have been considered and identified. They should have one traded for and on the team before the end of the month. The sooner the better. This isn't the year to wait until the end of a July.

Looks like. First time all season he's started 3x in a row. This is also his 7th start in the last 10 games. To find the previous 7 starts you have to go back 24 games.

It's thin because France and Bielak (as awesome as they've been for us) will eventually regress. We need help.

I was looking at Robert earlier and, damn, he'd be a nice add. He's controllable through 2027 though. Not sure why the Sox would be looking to deal him unless they can get a crazy good package.

I think when Lance went from hitting 93 & about to throw to live pitching to barely throwing on flat ground it signaled to the org that a 3/4 type would need to be added.

We have serviceable arms to get us to the deadline. We have 16 starts from France, Bielak, & Blanco and yet we're sitting pretty at #6 SP WAR, #2 SP ERA, #9 SP FIP, #5 SP xFIP, #6 SP SIERA, & #6 SP K/BB%.

Even if we didn't, its probably not worth the additional prospect capital to get a team to sell off 6 week early. The list of potential arms available at the deadline seems plentiful.

If the Sox called and said we'll give you Cease (2025) and Robert (2027) for:

Gilbert
Meyers
France
Arrighetti
Ullola

Would you do it?

Edit to say we might have to include Clifford or Barber too.

Because too many people actually believed LMJ might be back this year, even by the ASB.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Luis Robert would require a really good haul to pull from Chicago.

It'd be a package like McCormick/Meyers, Arrighetti, and probably someone like Lee/Leon packaged with a few lottery tickets or AA-level 2024/2025 players. Might even take a ML-ready pitcher like France as well.

Arms to consider at the deadline:
  • Eduardo Rodriguez
  • Marcus Stroman
  • Michael Lorenzen
  • Drew Smyly
  • Shane Bieber
  • Zack Greinke
  • Lucas Giolito
  • Michael Kopech
  • Miles Mikolas
  • Jordan Montgomery
  • Jack Flaherty
  • Lance Lynn
  • Corey Kluber

It's hard to imagine getting Robert without giving up Gilbert (or Melton at the very least). Given how long Robert is under team control for though, I'd consider it.

I've heard 6 of these names mentioned. No idea on level of interest or chances on any of them, but they have been mentioned.

How much would Eduardo Rodriguez cost? Has an opt out at the end of the year.

Left hander, good Ks, low BBs, solid expected stats

Not much but he's hurt. He'll be out for a while. All depends on the prognosis.
