Arms to consider at the deadline:
- Eduardo Rodriguez
- Marcus Stroman
- Michael Lorenzen
- Drew Smyly
- Shane Bieber
- Zack Greinke
- Lucas Giolito
- Michael Kopech
- Miles Mikolas
- Jordan Montgomery
- Jack Flaherty
- Lance Lynn
- Corey Kluber
Rodriguez is having his best year in an 8-year career, so I question whether he can maintain it. Lorenzen has been ok but nothing special. Smyly hasn't thrown more than 125 innings since 2016 and he's already logged 71 this year. Is anyone seriously talking about bringing 40-year old Zach Greinke back? Kopech adds nothing to what is already on the staff- he's middle-of-the-road Urquidy. Lynn and his -1.1 WAR can stay in Chicago. I think Corey Kluber's arm actually died in 2019 and it's just a ghost appendage pitching now. Speaking of 2019, Flaherty just passed 200 total innings pitched since that time and he hasn't looked great doing it.
Mikolas would be a proven starter, if nothing flashy, so I guess that qualifies as a #3/4.
Giolito would be a solid addition, assuming last year was a one-off that it appears to have been.
Bieber tailed off recently but is a horse. Would Cleveland really hit the sell button with the division that bad?
Montomery would also be a solid get.
So my opinion is that Houston should only part with substantial talent if it's Giolito, Bieber, or Montgomery.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.
