Im intrigued to see if we might try and package Stroman and ****** nozzle from the Cubs.

Not sure what that would take but maybe we could do something similar to or a mixture of Bielak, McCormcik, Julks, Lee, Melton and young arms not named Arghetti/Ullola/Tamarez. Id personally really like to throw in 40 man guys who arent going to breakthrough here even if its not much of a value add to the trade

How much would Eduardo Rodriguez cost? Has an opt out at the end of the year.

Left hander, good Ks, low BBs, solid expected stats

Good question. As long as he's healthy, I would expect him to be one of the more extensive rentals. If for some reason he gets injured after the trade odds are he's not opting out of the remaining 3/49 M. He's got some risk associated with him the others do not.

Stroman absolutely wants to stay in Chicago. He's unhappy that management isn't extending him. With as vocal and strong willed as he is, I don't want him here if he's not in the right mindset.

I think a lot of you are really overestimating the trade value of guys like Bielak, France, Julks, etc.

I've heard 6 of these names mentioned. No idea on level of interest or chances on any of them, but they have been mentioned.
How'd I do?

France is probably the highest of the 3, if I had to rank them

His salary and price tag worry me a little. I wouldn't expect him to stay as good as this start has been. But I think he's the type of guy to overcome the expected #s with the shear ability to get weak contact ala Keuchel.

If the Sox called and said we'll give you Cease (2025) and Robert (2027) for:

Gilbert
Meyers
France
Arrighetti
Ullola

Would you do it?

Edit to say we might have to include Clifford or Barber too.

I'd counter that they can get either Gilbert or Meyers but not both. And then I'd say yes.

Im not, but McCormick isnt worth keeping if a manager wont play him, Julks cant be here or the new guy wont get PT because dusty WILL play him. Bielak is what he is and at this point is just a spot on the 40 man. He is the one replaced if we get a new arm, Urkeeding would be replacing France. But I prefer keeping France of Bielak.

I also want to clear out Dubin and Joe Perez

Arms to consider at the deadline:
  • Eduardo Rodriguez
  • Marcus Stroman
  • Michael Lorenzen
  • Drew Smyly
  • Shane Bieber
  • Zack Greinke
  • Lucas Giolito
  • Michael Kopech
  • Miles Mikolas
  • Jordan Montgomery
  • Jack Flaherty
  • Lance Lynn
  • Corey Kluber

Rodriguez is having his best year in an 8-year career, so I question whether he can maintain it. Lorenzen has been ok but nothing special. Smyly hasn't thrown more than 125 innings since 2016 and he's already logged 71 this year. Is anyone seriously talking about bringing 40-year old Zach Greinke back? Kopech adds nothing to what is already on the staff- he's middle-of-the-road Urquidy. Lynn and his -1.1 WAR can stay in Chicago. I think Corey Kluber's arm actually died in 2019 and it's just a ghost appendage pitching now. Speaking of 2019, Flaherty just passed 200 total innings pitched since that time and he hasn't looked great doing it.

Mikolas would be a proven starter, if nothing flashy, so I guess that qualifies as a #3/4.

Giolito would be a solid addition, assuming last year was a one-off that it appears to have been.

Bieber tailed off recently but is a horse. Would Cleveland really hit the sell button with the division that bad?

Montomery would also be a solid get.

So my opinion is that Houston should only part with substantial talent if it's Giolito, Bieber, or Montgomery.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

What a cool moment last night to see Maldy hit his 100th career HR. Hopefully we do the right thing this offseason and extend him long term. Would be a shame to see him hit his 200th with another club.

This is a joke, right?

If this happens without giving up too much, it'll be about the ideal deadline.

Abreu is going to keep hitting like a Cuban Goldschmidt with a ******ed chin mullet.

J/k we should sell high on Abreu while he's having a good week.

How does a team just now find out a pitcher who hasn't been able to throw has a Lima bean sized bone spur? Seems to me that kind of thing would have shown up on an MRI taken, oh I don't know, a month or two ago?

A break from trade talk to check in on a former Astro.

Even though his name isn't "Jack." Nice work, Ben.
