Is there any thought about him playing 1B in the future?

Is anyone looking to unload any tickets for the Mets or Mariners series coming up?

Right now Yordan is a 61/39 split DH/LF. I would think that is a solid #. If he plays 150 games a season that would be 92/58. I think that is a decent plan. If we ever find another LF we want out there, maybe even less.

Drew Smith (reliever for Mets) ejected yesterday for sticky stuff. If suspended he will not be available for the series against us, and they can not replace him on the roster for 10 day ban. Bullpen might be overworked by the time they come to town next week.

IF Brantley does end up coming back later this year, I wonder if he becomes the majority DH and Yordan the majority LF.

LF we want out there, or LF Dusty wants out there? Cause those seem to be 2 very different things.

Cause Dusty has his guy, and I would love to see Chaz out there everyday with Dubon sprinkled in. Obviously I am not against Yordan being LF in Minute Maid some % of time.

You can't have a 9-0 homestand without winning the first game of said homestand

Did they let him wash his hands the first time?

Pretty typical for an oblique injury. Especially for a power hitter. We really need Abreu to keep warming up.

So unless he makes it as a starter I assume he can't be named to the AS roster?

Ok, so unless (and until) we make an addition in the rotation - or Urquidy returns - we're going to see Bielak start some more games. I've mentioned it before, but he needs to throw his 4 seam fastball as little as possible. The problem? He doesn't really have a way to get left hand hitters out. This season he has gone almost exclusively with 4 seam or changeup vs Lefties, and they are doing damage.

Last start vs Cleveland, the lefties killed him. 6-13 with 2 doubles and 2 homers. The game before that lefties were 4-8, but 3 singles. Most of those hits were against his 4 seam and his change up.

For some reason, he doesn't throw his curveball very much, but it's actually his best performing pitch against lefties. This season, only 6 AB vs LHH ended in curveballs. In those 6 ABs, 1 single, 2 Ks, and a 36% whiff rate.

I know, I know...small samples. Maybe Cleveland was just a bad day and he couldn't locate. Well, he doesn't have a lot of career sample size, either. In the past the change up has performed better, but he's already thrown it more this year than at any other point.

I'm not sure why the Astros (or Bielak) don't like his slider vs lefties, but he's only thrown it 35 times vs them in his big league career, and only 18 times this year. I think it could be a good pitch, but I have no way to know for sure. The small sample is 1 for 2 with a double, but they've whiffed 40% of the time.

My overall guess is location is his problem

Damn, seems like Astro fans need to be wearing protective cups for all the kicks in the nuts this season has produced, I'm afraid yet another looms this afternoon.

I would start Blanco and put Bielak in the pen as long relief. But I'm not in charge of the lineup card.

To be fair, I don't think any of us expected LMJ back any time soon anyways

Agreed. But, it would be nice to get one pleasant surprise this year.

If Yordan would be all in at 1B, that would solve a number of issues. Apparently, not an option

He's just not a first baseman. Playing first base in the big leagues is much more difficult than most people believe. It's extremely tough to learn it from scratch while playing the highest level of baseball in the world. It's not a matter of him just not wanting to.

We managed well without YED for a while last year and during his long slump. Dana was very positive about Uncle Mike on 790 AM this morning so getting him back in the meantime could be a boost.

I think he could learn if he put in offseason work for a couple of years. If Berkman could do it, I think Yordan could.

It would be a much easier transition if he was already playing an infield position. Yuli was able to be GG 1B because he played 3B his entire career.

I remember when the Yankees moved Micky Mantle from the outfield to first base at the end of his career to save wear on his legs. He said playing first base ended up being harder.

there are many examples.

Willie Stargell was an outfielder for the Pirates for the first 12 years of his career

but during those seasons he would play 10 to 15 maybe 20 games at first base.

which prepared him to make the permanent move to 1B for the final 5+ years of his career

Correct, but everyone is different. Some things are more natural for others. They've worked Yordan out at first base before and it seems like they decided it wasn't for him.

more like him being back ever…

LMJ is made of glass. Feel bad for the guy but it's time for the Astros to stop considering him in any of there plans. If he's healthy and can pitch that's a bonus, but to count on him for anything should be out of the question from now on.

Dubon might end up taking Maldy's spot as team MVP this year

Dubon might end up taking Maldy's spot as team MVP this year Dusty's favorite option at catcher.

You beat me to it Marvin...Dubon not only has been a pleasant surprise I'd say it's been an incredible surprise for a team that was without Altuve for a long stretch to start the season.

Diaz I think is under the category of pleasant surprise....if Dusty would ****ing play him!!!
