There have been lots & lots of bad at-bats this season. Abreu has had more than his share. For Maldy, it's regular. Even Alvarez has looked foolish on a number of occasions.
But, I think the worst one of all occurred last night when Altuve popped up that bunt late in the game. Just terrible.

It wasn't just that it was late in the game. There was 1 out and maldy was on 2nd.
At this point this is the front office fault. Dusty has managed this thing to where being fired for cause should have happened. You don't do something like play these lineups in a tight race and keep your job in any other profession. I doubt you see Diaz tonight or Brantley.

It is baseball. Even 100 win teams win less than 2 out of every 3 games and 100 loss team win more than 1 out of every 3 games so often the end of the year difference is based on marginal differences that accumulate and add up over the course of the season. As such, a team like the Astros is doing itself no favors when it continues to not consistently play all of its best players, especially at this point in the season.
It is just crazy that the smartest organization in baseball has morphed into an organization that devalues and does not consistently play Chas and that consistently plays the worst player in all of baseball even when the win/loss metrics (which is only stat could use try to support Maldy playing at this point because all of his direct stats are so bad) do not support it. This is all on Crane at this point.

The top 3 hitters all year for us have been Tucker, Yordan, and Chas. They should be batting 3-4-5 but instead Donkey has them 3-5-8. Why give the opposing pitcher breathers?
Also, Chas 8th is so disgraceful. Here are some of the OPS leaders: Mookie, Acuna, Harper, Seager, Soto just to name a few. WTF would bat any of them in the Adam Everett slot?

It's not that uncommon for a team right on the edge to get hot and win it. But we are showing no signs of getting hot.

At this point I'd just like to win a playoff series, and make it further than the Rangers. This team is so inconsistent it'll be very difficult to win 3 playoff series in a row to go back to back. Not impossible of course… but this team will need to get hot for 3 straight weeks.

But that's a very strict set of filters (won WS, <91 wins & sucked in the final month). We may not even fit into that window if we win 91.
Just showing that even if things kind of suck at the end, the postseason is a new season. We're not doomed yet.
This is where I'm at. Just get into the dance somehow and see what happens. Would prefer to win the division of course but postseason is new season.
