Wonder how much they plan on spending? Kershaw, Story, Suzuki all have been rumored to be in the mix.

If the 100 million is true we have spent the following so far:

Semien - $25m
Calhoun - $5.6m
Gray - $14m

That's $44.6m committed so far. Still have plenty of room for improvement. If we get Kershaw and Story that's probably used most of the remaining balance with maybe $5-$10 still left to get some depth elsewhere. The only caveat is I have no idea what Kershaw is going to draw on the market. Any idea?

I'd guess

Kershaw - $20-25M
Story - $30M
No idea on Suzuki

Former #3 overall pick. He has a good assortment of pitches. Not sure if he's pitched his best baseball yet.

Also, he was on the Rockies, so roughly half his outings would come in Denver ,(higher elevation)

Rockies fans are upset that we got him at that price. Felt that ownership should have offered at least that to try to get him to stay. His stuff is good.

Rosenthal says Rangers are still in on Seager and Story would be the back up plan. He's been my #1 want.

I'd prefer Seager to Story but I figured his price tag would be a lot higher. Crazy day today.

Would MUCH rather have Seager than Story. Count me among those skeptical of Story playing the majority of games not in Colorado.

Why do the rangers and cowboys seem to have no issue getting players to come here, but mark cuban has to trade or draft guys to Dallas? Do all the nba players hate Cuban or something? Are the mavericks really that incompetently ran compared to the rangers / cowboys?

The signings started to roll in right as I posted and I went to lurking and not commenting on anything until some dust settled.

With that... the $44.6M is right at the $45M I said the team would sign. I believe the Rangers are not done... so... I applaud them for the flurry of activity.

Gray gives us some certainty about the rotation.

Semien helps the 2nd most important area. MIF.

Whether it is at 2B or SS... we should now have a pretty good MIF. If IKF ends up at 3B... that's fine. We've added an IF and that is huge.

Calhoun is probably as good as any other OF we have. He improves the pool of talent in OF.

So, we've improved the team talent in all 3 areas. With 1 roster spot open, we'll have to bump 2 players.

The idea of a trade with Cincy for Sonny Gray could be real.

Say we sign Corey Seager... trading IKF becomes likely. Include him (and/or Solak and/or Ibanez) and a SP like Allard/King for Sonny Gray.

The next couple days will be interesting.

No joke, I'm really wanting Seager now more than Story. Getting the best 2nd baseman on the market and doubling that up with the second best SS (Correa being the 1st) would be incredibly exciting. Couple that with Gray and hopefully an ace in Robbie Ray or Kershaw (who sure might be in decline, but would definitely be must watch and first true ace in a long time).

Hoping things start to move in short order now that the Scherzer deal has been announced.

Keep in mind we actually have quite a few good young arms. If we sign pitching FA, I'm guessing it'll be 3 year kinda deal at most.

BTW - I stepped up to better seats for next season this morning. I'm a believer.
