If the Astros get swept (looking possible at this point) would this be considered the greatest WS upset of all time?
Reds over A's 1990?
I looked that one up a little while ago.

the 91-win Reds swept the 103-win A's. So a 12-win regular season differential.

the Nationals won 93 games during the regular season (plus a wildcard game). This would be a bigger upset. (14-win differential)

Well that sucked.

Moving on.
Currently a happy listless vessel and deplorable. #FJB TRUMP 2024.

I just keep telling myself they still have a chance to win the WS... but right now it's not doing much good...

I never understood how crowd noise helped or hurt a team in Baseball.

It cost us not hearing catcher interference last night though

It helps the defense when the offense can't hear the QB

That's our problem we need a QB!!

We definitely could have used a touchdown tonight.

Have to limit the walks in game 3.

Let's just go win game 3, boys! Show your fight.

Just going to say this...Houston Astros fans should be absolutely ashamed of themselves this evening. No energy in the crowd, no sense of the "situation", total garbage. Felt like I was sitting in a crowd of anesthetized morons that looked at me crazy when I would stand up and try to get some fire lit. Worst experience to date at an Astros game...and I've been to a crap ton of them
Someone please post the Yankee fan trying to rally everyone in the ALCS

The A's swept the Red Sox in the ALCS in 4 games like they were the junior varsity of your high school. Lok at the A's pitching. Bob Welch was 27-6. Eckersley had 48 saves and a ERA of 0.61. Their lineup was infinitely better than Cincy's. The Reds were a decent team, but every advantage swung Oakland's way on paper.

The Nats have 2 dominant pitchers just like we do and are on an unprecedented hot streak. This doesn't feel like an upset at all, it feels like the hotter team playing lights out baseball.

Just comes down to who is hot, win game 3 and watch the bats come alive. No, the situation is less than optimal, but our chances of winning the WS are infinitely better than 28 other teams.

1988 was a 10-win differential between the A's and Dodgers.

I checked 1969, 1987, 2003, and 2006 too.

history is not going to be kind to the Astros if they don't come back in this series

Are you being serious? It didn't look that close to me but I turned the TV off as soon as blue made the call.

Except we were the biggest favorite to win the ws since 2007, sure feels like a huge upset if it happens

Well we are definitely underdogs at this point. Maybe that matters... who knows.

They've been the hottest team in baseball... time for us to get hotter.

Win the next 2 and we get back home field advantage

I hope this embarrassing game and all the drama with the front office (which means everybody outside of Houston is a Nats fan right now) lights a fire under this team's ass.

You can't compare 2019 Ws in which so many teams are actively tanking to an era in which there were less teams and much more parity.

Anyway we're winning this in 7, so not an issue.

Bullpen. Cole & JV are shot this year. They need all the rest they can get on those arms. A short rest start would be the death blow.

The A's had a 27 and a 22-game winner, peak Eckersley with a 0.61 ERA, peak roiding Bash Bros and peak Rickey with 28 HR 65 SB and a 1.016 OPS!
having Rickey Henderson in fantasy baseball back in the day was like printing money.

who knows...maybe the "taste" of a championship will affect the Nats going forward. I kinda doubt it, but it's certainly possible.

I watched the 1990 world series on TV. It was a stunning upset no doubt.

the 2019 Astros may have as many or more Hall of Famers than the 1990 A's did.

the difference of course is that the 1990 Reds only had 1 Hall of Famer (Larkin). This Nationals team has one (Scherzer) and maybe 1 or 2 more. Time will tell

Lol. Called it what you want then. How are upsets determined then? By who is favored or supposed to be the better team right??
