Spent an hour reading the 2017 thread again. So great. Ready to do this again. Also funny to read we loved Correa and cringed for Reddicks ABs back then. And forgot how bad the the umps really blew in game 6 and 7.

His hired guy (recently hired) for placing the bet, specifically mentioned the Grienke trade happening last minute and once that happened he couldn't get a good rate on an insurance policy. He would actually get a better rate just by betting on the Astros.

I have a friend in the mattress business. They make around 80% margin on full price mattresses.... so about 5x markup. Tempurpedic (and other "big" brand names might be slightly less, but not sure.

You know dang well he got full price on all those mattresses because of the "free" clause. The other side of the coin is the additional sales he made by getting people in the door with the promotion. How many people bought a bed to go along with their mattress, or a couch, dining room set, etc. etc?

So even if he sold $10MM in matresses, if the 80% markup is true then he is only out $2MM in inventory.

It's impossible to compare steroid users late careers to guys that are clean. I don't think we are going to see guys like Rose that didn't miss a single game from age 38 to 41 and made 4 ASG, led the league in hits and batting average at age 40 and so on...and then kept playing until he was 45.

This isn't as much of a focus because of the gambling, but Rose was a massive roider and was way ahead of his time in that area. He had the additional advantage of playing against guys that couldn't bench their body weight and ate fried chicken before games.
