It's impossible to compare steroid users late careers to guys that are clean. I don't think we are going to see guys like Rose that didn't miss a single game from age 38 to 41 and made 4 ASG, led the league in hits and batting average at age 40 and so on...and then kept playing until he was 45.
This isn't as much of a focus because of the gambling, but Rose was a massive roider and was way ahead of his time in that area. He had the additional advantage of playing against guys that couldn't bench their body weight and ate fried chicken before games.
