I'd offer max deals to Capela or Aaron Gordon, and significant money to Favors or Randle. Screw the rest of these older scrubs and go all in on one of these younger, underutilized, players with potential to grow WITH Doncic and DSJ. Aaron Gordon is a guy I can see dominating the league at the 4 position. Get him. Or make Orlando match. Then move to Capela. Then move to Favors. Then move to Randle. Any GM worth their salt should be able to sign one of these guys.

If Deandre wanted to maximize the probability of adding a ring to his finger, this would be way to go. But he'd have to pay for it.

He was played out of position his entire career in Orlando and never even had a competent PG. He's also only 22 and has all the tools to dominate at the 4 position who can also play some 5 if called upon. He's the epitome of a switch, rim running, big man. Him and Capela are my favorite FA.

Gordon is 6'9", only 22, athletic, and he made solid strides shooting the ball last year. So I see the appeal, but there is something about his coordination that looks off.

I guess I just don't see him as a big, but I don't watch him a ton

There are only two ways I believe this deal is actually happening

1- DeAndre puts pen to paper on July 6th
2- Before July 6th, he actually puts something out on social media saying he's "excited to join the Mavericks" or something similar. He never did that last time when he agreed to a deal

Tons of cap space. And I would imagine the strategy that if you can put together a nice leap forward in 2018-19 around that young core (with the help of DJ behind them to hammer the boards and clean up the spotty defense that tends to come with youth), you become a more attractive landing spot for those 2019 FAs (regardless of whether DJ continues to be a part of it). They need more than a vision to sell. Putting tangible progress on the court would help.

I don't quite understand the point of it being a one-year deal. How does it benefit DeAndre? If he underperforms next year, wouldn't that tank his market value? How does it benefit the Mavs? If DeAndre walks away after one year, they are stuck once again looking for a center.

Sometimes things are about business, and I think this is a play by Cuban to sell Dirk's last season to fans before the full rebuild.

This is about the cap spiking to $109 in 2019 and $116 in 2020. They think a number of free agents are going to take 1 year deals per latest reports (source Stein).

As noted above, the Mavericks will have an ability to sign Deandre with bird rights and another star next year or the year after should the Mavericks continue to perform.

Just guessing on numbers but $12 million for the 41 home games with no state income tax is probably going to be a pretty nice raise from last year.

He was only here half a season, but I really wanted to bring him back as a solid bench guy. It'll free up a lot of space though

Yea I actually like McDermott and think it's a sold signing for pacers. If given s chance, I think he will be good for them. But I understand why we didn't sign him.

Havent heard anything on the seth curry front. Hopefully we can resign him. Excellent shooter when healthy

Everything I've read seems to indicate Curry is gone. He hasn't had any contact with the team in a while.

I'd absolutely bring him back if you can get him cheap. Mavs really need shooters and if he can return to the level of 2016, it would be a hell of a bargain

Didn't Durant have a stress fracture a few years back. Looks like he did alright.

Don't think he missed a whole year though

If I remember right he tried to come back early and it didn't feel right so they parked him for a long time.

The injury requires time but isn't permanent.
