He's going to stiff the Mavericks again. I was hoping for capela or boogie.
I'm crossing my fingers he ends up somewhere else.PatAg said:
As much as he left a bad impression last time around, I still think he could kill it in on a Carlisle coached team.
Cousin's does at least have the possibility of growing out of the reputation he earned early on in his career. Why can't these bigs just all emulate Tyson Chandler. You can be a HUGE part of a championship team without being a focal point of the offense as a big.Grapesoda2525 said:I'm crossing my fingers he ends up somewhere else.PatAg said:

What really hurt the mavs last time was they literally waited on him for 3 or 4 days to sign, he changed his mind at the last second, and all of the secondary options were signed / taken already.
Maybe give him a one day take it or leave it offer then move on, but they can't let him screw them again. I was hoping for cousins even tho he's a bonehead. Maybe that could still happen

"Boogie" and "defense"
I'd say it's a mix, as Carlisle's "flow-style" offense does fit more in line with how the league is progressing to position-less basketball with constant switching. And Doncic is perfect for that, which is no doubt why they targeted him specifically in this draftFarmerKeith said:
Pardon my ignorance, but do these "changes" in how championships are won stem from the Golden State model? Not being snarky, just tuning back in to the Mavs for the first time in a while.

Horford is a 4 in my book anyways.mavsfan4ever said:FarmerKeith said:

It's not just golden state. Houston was the clear second best team in the league this year and they are constructed in much the same way. Capela is pretty good but they weren't paying him much. None of the top teams are paying centers. GS, Houston, Cleveland (they are paying Tristan but that's bc it didn't hurt their roster construction bc they could pay and not really affect the cap), Phili (not paying Embiid yet), Toronto, etc.
I'm not sure what the best team is who actually has a prototypical center that they are paying a lot is. But you have to go down a while. And if they have a high dollar center, they are usually rendered incapable of playing against GS. The one exception is Anthony Davis but he's more of a 4 than a 5. And we aren't signing an Anthony Davis type in free agency. Edit to add that Boston is paying Horford. But they have a ton of young talent on rookie deals so it's a little unusual.
The last team to win a championship with a center being paid big money? Duncan wasn't paid much the last spurs championship. Seems like you have to go back a ways to find one. In the super team era, the value of high dollar centers has cratered.
I think OKC won, but it wasn't a blowoutSaint Pablo said:
Wow! He good. Did they end up winning that? Or did OKC prevail?

I'm just hoping for a version of Manu Ginobili with a full head of hair.
I was unsure about him a while ago, but after watching more and more tape I am soldPumpkinhead said:Saint Pablo said:

Was doing that at 17! True teenage phenom like LeBron was. Seems a bit nuts that 4 NBA teams passed on him, but hey, Mavs fan base likely to grow now.
The Floor on this kid is probably 'good NBA starter'. Barring injury, almost certainly will be playing as a starter in NBA for a long time. And The Ceiling though...is Magic Johnson 2.0.
I know both he and Manu are international and he seems to have some Manu-ish flair to his game, but physically he looks very different to me than how Manu looked coming into the league. Manu was wiry and probably more bouncy than Doncic. Doncic though is 6'8" and 230 lbs...he is built like a Tank already at age 19. His overall physical build and some of how he moved in those highlights actually reminds me more of a young Magic Johnson than a Ginobili.MW03 said:
