Heat may have a tough time reaching the NBA minimum salary threshold of 57mm if Bosh and Bron walk.

I'd be happy to play for them to meet the minimum cap. I've got a pretty good wide open 3 point shot, I'll try on defense, and will only sign for a year so they can give it a go next summer.

Per woj.

Maybe Pops new contract has something to do with this. It's got to be enticing to pau the way he takes care of older stars to prolong careers.

I'm in, too. We can be Miami's version of Curry/Thompson: the Trash Brothers.

No way Spurs get Gasol over Chicago. Bulls have more than the MLE.

I agree that Gasol is the longest of shots. Not only can chicago offer substantially more, but if Gasol decides to take the MLE then he has more suitors than just the Spurs (OKC for example).

I think the only chance would be if Anthony joined Chicago and that extra money for Pau dried up.

Today should be an interesting day. I imagine Lebron will make his decision and then the musical chairs will really begin.

I hope somewhere in the shuffle the Spurs find a good value that fits well and make a move with their MLE.

It will be interesting to see what happens with McRoberts and Granger. It seems both signed on with Miami with the understanding they would play with Lebron. If you are going to play for a loser team you may as well get paid fair value to do it.

If he decides to take the MLE, not sure OKC is more attractive to him than SA. SA has to be the most attractive place for an MLE player that wants to win.

It's unlikely that the Spurs get Gasol but outside of the Bulls, there aren't many others who could offer Gasol a lot. The Bulls aren't a sure thing. They are expressing interest all over the place.

I agree he likely ends up in Chicago but he would be chasing the money instead of championships because Chicago isn't winning it all. Surely, he realizes that.

I think he ends up getting payed somehow whether it's Chicago or another contender finding a way to get him via S&T but if he's regulated to taking the MLE somewhere, I think he ends up in SA.

And if he does somehow end up in SA, then forget about it. Duncan - Splitter - Diaw - Gasol. Shut it down.

Yea, that lineup would be pretty darn good.

We could play any style of play and absolutely exploit other teams weaknesses. We would absolutely dictate tempo and style. Gasol is a pretty darn good passer when he wants to be and has a really nice 15ft jump shot, which would be open all day in this offense.

We would play big a bit more than we did last year though, so that is worth watching as far as offensive flow.

In this dream scenario I actually wouldn't mind seeing Pau start alongside Tim and have Splitter coming off the bench with Diaw to play with Manu. Of course, Pop will figure out what is best.

Parker, Mills, Joseph (rotate in Cotton if he shows well until Mills comes back)
Green, Manu, Belinelli
Leonard, Daye, Anderson
Duncan, Diaw, Bonner
Gasol, Splitter, Ayers

I don't see any team beating that lineup if healthy, especially with Pop as coach.
Sher Thing

Yeah. The Spurs would coast through the regular season with that lineup. Duncan and Manu no b2b's etc.

If we somehow get Pau, just give us the trophy.

So is McRoberts back on the market?
GatorAg03

It will be interesting to watch McRoberts. Do the rebuilding heat even want him for that salary without Lebron?

I also wonder if Gasol would want to stack a team (Spurs or OKC) now to compete with the bigs in the west.

Ibaka and Adams
Bosh and Howard
ZBo and Randolph
Griffin and Jordan
Duncan and Splitter

The west can roll out some beef down low. I would love to add some length in Gasol. I still think the Spurs can run any of those big lineups off the floor with their small ball, if their shots are falling. Still you don't want to get in a playoff situation where you are getting killed down low. Baynes needs to be resigned at the minimum if we don't sign another big like Gasol.

If they could play C and PF at the same time, this would be a scary combo.

ZBo has been eating a lot in the offseason so they might be able to.

haha, my mistake. Y'all know who I was talking about. Gasol and Zbo.
Ulrich

As I mentioned in the Rockets thread, I'm not sure that the Spurs make their moves in response to anything other teams do in the offseason. However, I'd feel more comfortable knowing that Baynes and Bonner were back to frustrate Howard and free Tiago to stick on Bosh. It would also seem to make a strong push for McRoberts or Gasol more attractive, because at this point you're not going anywhere in the West without beating a pretty solid 4-5 combo featuring a low post threat and a mobile midrange shooter.

I could see the Spurs really push for Gasol or McRoberts. I'd really like a post or stretch 4 with the MLE.

Pretty sure Cleveland should be thanking San Antonio very hard right now. We brought down the dynasty.

I completely agree. You either need to match up with the size in the west with Gasol or you need to committ to small ball and running teams out of the gym with Diaw and McRoberts.

We can do both now with our personnel but we don't have the depth to play one way or the other the entire game. Plus we dodged most the power post teams in the playoffs and the one we did play in OKC had an injured Ibaka and a still developing Adams who will keep improving.

I like Gasol more as a proven commodity and because size wins more often than not in basketball, but am still intrigued by the idea of having Diaw in the starting linup and have McRoberts as a backup and literally running small ball the whole game and daring teams to keep up with the Spurs style and shooting.

Either way, i think we have to go all out to add another post player in response to the West.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mavs make a run at Gasol if Parsons goes back to Houston. There aren't many other options out there and they should have the cap space.

Spurs or the Bulls. No way the Bulls will be in the finals for years to come. D. Rose knees are one sneeze away from another torn ACL.

Just heard the discussion on NBATV. Between Spurs and Bulls and if the Lakers do not receive a sign and trade from the Bulls, he will most likely sign with the Spurs.

Chicago has to be getting pretty desperate here. Houston and Chicago may strike out big time. I bet they really up their sign and trade offer for Gasol and they can still offer more than the Spurs even without a trade.

Gasol would fit perfect here and could still be effective another 3-4 yrs with limited minutes and good coaching. I also bet he could convince his bro to come over in a couple years if the Spurs keep winning. This would really help our post Duncan transition plan. I am trying not to get my hopes up but Pau would be a great fit here.

Can't believe the spurs are one of two teams he's considering. Would be an unbelievable get at 5M/yr. c'mon Pau!

doesnt matter if spurs land gasol or not...theyre already winners of free agency in west if he goes to the bulls, because no one in west top 5 teams got significantly better this summer. houston may be getting worse

Coach bud and ferry trying to cock block spurs. Offering Pau 11M a yr. Pau likely passes on offer though.

i think pau is just using spurs as leverage. Chicago would roll through the east with him and Rose at 75%. chicago can pay him more than twice what the spurs can. No way he passes up all that cash to run the west gauntlet.
