Great Finals going on and you wouldn't know it because most of this thread seems to be aimed at officiating. So glad I don't have a cucumber stuck in my ass like some of ya'll do.

To those defending the refs, I'm with you but just stop. It's the easiest explanation and cop out in basketball when your team didn't win... there won't be any convincing or changing minds here.

So you think that was just a good old fashioned bad call?

If that's the case, how are these officials getting any calls RIGHT?

That doesn't mean that just because you're attacking the basket means you're getting fouled. And there are guys that attack the basket plenty that don't live at the line like they should.

How many STARS attack the basket like Wade and James do and don't get calls?

Free throws not apparently free for OKC...just awful FT shooting, fml

People are going to foul an offensive threat to keep them from getting to the basket.

Wade isn't the threat that James is. Or Kobe, even as he's fading.

Do you really think that call tonight was just an honest bad call? If so, answer me this: Are they getting all the other calls right by accident? How does that work--was there any easier call not to make than that?

OKC fans complaining about officiating when Durant should've fouled out the last 2 games.
Jacques

Durant has had 6 honest fouls in two games.

None of this **** they're calling him for was called during the season. They're not fouls.

Okay pal, you're obviously either drunk because the Thunder lost or just a flat out idiot. Probably both.

Maybe not, but he's still one of the best in the league at attacking the basket and makes plays to finish that only 3 or 4 others could make in the league right now.

I wonder why they never seem to consider a 2-2-2-1 format? Do they think that the team with the better record having 4 of the first 6 at home is unfair?
Why would you let the lower seed team get to have Game 7 at home?

Because the higher seeded team gets 4 at home.

If you can't do 2-2-1-1-1 because of travel, then I think a 2-2-2-1 is more fair. In a 2-3-2, the higher seeded team gets 4 games at home, plus game 7 at home, plus the advantage of getting three straight on the road, which makes it easier to get at least one road win. I think that is too much of an advantage for the higher seeded team.

No way.

So the team with the best record plays game 7 away? GTFO

I've always thought it favored the lower seed, actually. Steal game 1 or 2 and you can close out the series without ever having to travel back. Or if you drop the first two games you get 3 home games to swing the momentum of the series.

I'm not sure if the stats would back that up due to disparity between seeds in some years, but interesting nonetheless. I like the 2-2-1-1-1 format and wish they kept it for the Finals.

1) 4 games at home.
2) Game 7 at home.
3) All three road games in a row.

Those are three significant advantages. Why should a team get all three of them just because they won more regular season games?

I know it is not conventional, I just don't see why a team should get 4 games at home AND game 7 at home. The idea is that the setup should be as neutral as possible.

There should be incentive for playing out the entire season. That benefit is home court advantage.

It sucks in the NFL when some of the best players sit out weeks 16 and 17.

They could always let HCA be decided by the all-star game like some sports...

Wasn't the 2-3-2 put in place for travel of everyone (teams, media, etc) across country back when the Finals was typically West coast vs. East coast? While that could still be the case (in an LA vs. Miami type Finals), it seems silly since Boston-Miami in ECF is actually further distance than SA-Miami or OKC-Miami (yes I had to look this up to confirm). Plus when flying a chartered jet, is an extra 1-2 hours max in the air really making a huge difference on everyone? I don't buy it. They just need to make the Finals 2-2-1-1-1 like the rest of the rounds. The Finals games are all 2-3 days apart anyways which is very manageable even with the two extra flights. The team with the better regular season record earned having 4 games at home with one of those being Game 7.

How many years of a Boston-LA Finals has their been?

It isn't really about the players as much as media. The players are all in their private planes, and it isn't a big deal. It is really expensive to fly the media back and forth across the country. Plus if they have to set up remote equipment, then tear is down it is even more difficult.

chartered jets are VERY expensive for teams. I can't give you the exact dollar amount since i'm not allowed, but the bobcats spent between 4-7 million dollars on private jet fees last year. that's just an example. Many teams have agreements for regular season usage, then have to create a new one for each round of the playoffs. So saving themselves a few hundred thousand in the playoffs is well worth it

I think that having 2-2-2-1 is actually a big disadvantage for the road team. You would have to win at least 2 on the road just to force a game 7.

Huh?

No matter how the series is divided, if each team wins their home games, game 7 will be played.
HotardAg07

Think about that again. Higher seed would close out in game 6 if both teams held down their home court

If all these jets are so expensive and it's such a problem for the media, why aren't all playoff rounds 2-3-2? Just doesn't make sense to me that the entire philosophy changes for the Finals series. I think this was attributed to increased distance in the past which was the point of my previous post to refute that as a valid argument.

Not too big a deal to go from San Antonio to Oklahoma City or Dallas to OKC.

Yeah but you don't know those matchups before hand. What about LA-Memphis, or Miami-Chicago?

Same reason there are two weeks before the super bowl. Championship is a bigger event that gets worldwide coverage and is on a different scale

If you read my initial post suggesting this, I considered that concern. It's a legitimate concern. I just hate the 2-3-2. Three games in a row at home mitigate some of the normal home court advantage, plus you already have to play 4 on the road, plus you have very little chance of getting an opportunity to clinch at home.
bayouaggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Then I guess there is no point in complaining or proposing different options since 2-3-2 is the absolute minimal travel you can have without a ridiculous slant (4-3 or 3-4). Guess everyone should accept 2-3-2 and move along...

From a fan perspective I think the Finals should be about the teams and players - 2-2-1-1-1 provides the best competitive balance. It annoys me that 2-3-2 is there just to accommodate the media but I understand it's all about $$$$$.

The 2-2-1-1-1 is clearly the best option in terms of game fairness.
