Both things can be true.

1. The red card was bull**** .
2. The president should not be getting involved. It's a very bad look at best.

I don't concede #2 being true. FIFA has made itself a political organization, one of the more corrupt in the world. You do what you have to do when dealing with that kind of entity , especially when it means the right thing being done regarding your players. Balogun should not have to miss this game. Period.

If only the US government would stfu about stuff they do. Just say it was USSF and there would be far less backlash. Used to say the same thing during the early Ukraine war days. Our government wouldn't shut up about all the Intel we were handing over. Just do it in silence you egomaniacs

FIFA has a long history of dealing with heads of states and governments for favors. This is nothing new. Do yourself a favor and Go watch " FIFA Uncovered"

We all know thats impossible for Trump. If the good guys win on Monday then Trump will 100% be taking all the credit. He can't help himself.

I dont really do social media but do have a facebook account. I mostly just use it to check local news and such. I just logged in and am surprised to find American fans upset about it.

Not sure how that is possible.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Look hate him all you want, but know for damn sure if it's Biden or Kamala or anyone else for that matter, we start Pepi against Belgium and not the guy who has 3 goals and playing like a madman. That's the Trump effect, illustrated by this hilarious Shane Gillis story.

This isn't an unprecedented decision. Just during WC qualifying, Ronaldo was given a 3 game ban after a red card against Ireland…it was partially suspended so he could play the opening round games. I haven't heard any pushback from fans or talking heads during this tournament in regards to that decision.

This isn't a stain on the team, it's an issue that should never have been escalated to a red. Everyone knew it was judgment that didn't fit the "crime".happy that the all might FIFA either found a crack in the initial decision, or changed due to alternate means.

Since the red card was applied in contradiction to the protocol of VAR the only correct outcome should be to rescind it.

FIFA basically took the easy approach. What they should have done was owned the error and acknowledged that it was incorrect and wiped the card away but they didn't do that. So this is the next best option.

This. And do it Thursday or maybe Friday at the latest. But this is better than letting that garbage card impact the rest of this is WC at least

My favorite take right now is Switzerland telling Belgium to refuse to play the game. Yeh, that's a good decision; forfeit because FIFA should have made the decision earlier last week. Maybe the Swiss should refuse to play their match, as well, in solidarity with Belgium.

It was a bull**** suspension. Anyone with an ounce of belief in fair sport would support it being lifted. Any debate beyond that is just a circle jerk. Go outside or something.

That was not the point, of course it was a terrible call, I just would have preferred to beat them wo him which we are absolutely capable of.

And I don't like the narrative that we need daddy to come to our rescue

He didn't. Your beef should've been more with the ****ty call. Your beef should be with FIFA.

The really bad look was fifa going against their own policies to 1) use slow mo on replay to red card a guy and 2) not coming out next day and saying the ref (who was previously banned from reffing in Brazil for taking bribes) made the wrong call and rescinding the red.

Belgium has a right to be pissed. They spent the last 4 days preparing for the game believing he would not be playing. This is a decision that should have been made on Thursday, not Sunday morning.

At least they practiced with a lineup that was going to play all along. USMNT, not so much.

Oh well, **** happens. If it had been The same situation with Belgium and was reversed, we would've had to deal with it regardless. No whining.

Presidents of every country should support their teams and fight for them if needed. We proved our case.

Now that's amazing! Telling another country to forfeit to "prove a point ". FIFA would lose $0 dollars if the match was forfeited. So funny.
