They have a new offside detection system that gets a digitized image in very quickly. It is controversial because it largely eliminates judgment calls on very close cases. If his foot was half an inch offside, the system calls that offside.

That is a VAR process failure IMHO. They review every goal for a foul in the buildup or off-side even if none is called, but if an offside is called they rarely do. If the ball goes in the net they should review it, period, with the head Referee going to the box.

Not saying he was 1000% onside but it was razor thin.

Regardless of the offside goal, that was a hell of a half man. Technically sound, keeping constant pressure but not getting caught out. Iran having a lot of problems linking up with this pressure. Even more when they have linked up, the US has gotten back.

He was off. IMO the rule should be changed to where any overlap is onside but as is some of his body was ahead of the defended
