My son's 7th grade coach/teacher (from Texas) was going over weird Tx town names and pronounced Leakey "leaky".

This bothers me still. I almost want to schedule a parent/teacher conference so i can bring it up.

He's a Tech grad
I never understood this one either…the locals corrected me quickly when I worked a hail storm there in 2017. It's somehow pronounced Lake-EE

Separates the dumbasses from the coonasses.
Also separates last name pronunciations. I got some backlash from a guy in Beaumont for pronouncing his name aye-bear, he was adamant that was He-bert.

There is a street in New York City spelled Houston. They pronounce it Hows Ton.

And many new Texans pronounce Elgin, El Gin, when they should say El Gun when they order "hot gut" from the City Market.

seems straighforward, but to the old timers it's pronounced "Colo-ray-do". It's sometime slurred together and becomes "Cah-ray-do City". The only instance I know of where Texans actually reduce the number of syllables.

Some of the best movie reviews I've ever read. Exchanged a few emails with him years ago and he was incredibly kind. I often think about his signature with some of the stuff I see on the internet these days.

I always had this mental image of Fred as some groovy old hep-cat with a ponytail and sunglasses, like the older musicians I see hanging out at blues clubs and stuff. Then when we lost him I read the obituary and saw that in addition to being a dentist he was a soldier, a former city council member and mayor, and still gigged. Extremely interesting, well rounded guy.
