According to my friend from Georgia, there's a Houston county in GA, but it is pronounced "House-ton" rather than "Hyouston" and she insisted that all Texans are wrong.

I have never figured out why people can't pronounce Burnet. When I correct someone, they often say, "Well, why don't they pronounce it how it's spelled?"
I think they do.

The street in NYC is also pronounced 'House-ton' and was named after a guy from Georgia so that makes sense. By the way, the street here is not only older than the city of Houston but it's older than Sam Houston. Which is the right pronunciation? Both I guess.
I tend to agree about Humble and the "H" being silent. I am from there but I understand because the town is named after a man which his last name has the "H" silent.

Mexia wins hands down. When I lived in Colorado, absolutely no one believed me when I told them it was pronounced "Mahair".

I only saw one mention of Anahuac so far, but that one ranks right up there.
Should Seguin be on the list? I can't imagine an announcer getting that one right. They'd probably pronounce it 'Segwin'.
