Couldn't agree more. We really need some depth and competition at QB. I know our OL didn't help Marcel much last game, but his tendency to take off and run after one look isn't working. Especially when there were a few open guys at times.

Chappell is a cb or a cover nickel, which is fine for obvious passing situations. But Elko's 4-2-5 base defense needs a hybrid nickel that can cover and provide run support, otherwise we get gashed in the run game by teams that know how to scheme against it (see SC, Auburn, tu).

TL;DR - WTF is going on with the defense?

What do you think the D's problem is? I re-watched the Auburn game and the problem seemed to be scheme. Guys were wide open for huge gains. Also, during Auburn it seemed like the CB would let a guy go and hope for safety help but it never came. Again WRs were wide open.

I also re-watched the Texas game DEs would crash hard and the back would cut to other side of the field and nobody is covering the back and a huge gain is made. This happened so many times. So is the issue discipline or players don't know their role?

I re-watched Notre Dame it seemed like guys were there but tackles were missed. The memory of the USC game never left... guys were always in the right spot but couldn't make the tackle.

It is always fire Klein but why does everyone give Bateman a pass? Ags scored the most out of any team in the SEC during conference play.

Poor tackling and no STAR. Not sure if the no STAR is by design or lack of talent but the STAR position is huge in run support.

Had much higher hopes from Sylla than what we saw. Same as GBD, just not sure how they never could see the field. Another 5* bust it appears.

I'm one of the fire Bateman guys, and let Klein have one more year to figure it out.

Klein had some bad play calls on 4th and 1 all season. He also seemed to get us into 3rd down too often even if he did do well converting. He did great in the red zone. Give him a good OL, WR's and healthy RB room then let's see what he can do.

Bateman lost us the games against Scar and Auburn. He tried to get cute and outschemed himself. Some reason he thought our big DL could take the long way around and have all day to get to the QB, meanwhile leaving open holes all over the place. It was like a kid playing Madden on Xbox for the first time levels of bad. I'd like to see him go after that inexcusable performance.

I'm glad other people see this. Tackling was piss poor during ND game and it didn't improve. Tackling is one thing every DC/ position coach should be able to fix. Bateman did not.

There are 3 playmaking WRs in the portal who would be day 1 starters for us in KC Conception, Micah Hudson, and Johntay Cook. If Elko can grab one of these guys it would be huge. Grab more than one (highly unlikely) and our WR room becomes loaded.

We aren't deep enough at QB to pass on talented transfer QBs. There's no downside to bringing one in. If he sucks he won't play.

Our 5* QB was mishandled across 2 coaching staffs (mainly by Jimbo) and he got injured as we had no OL. We don't know how to nurture and develop QBs.

Has anyone podcast or reviewed how the portal group from last year performed. It would be interesting to see how the guys performed individually and grade out the actual talent scouts who targeted them for recruiting.

Reed didn't beat Weigman out, however in hindsight I'd bet Pittman wishes they'd brought Reed in during the ND Game. Anyhow Weigman vacated the job, has never recovered (mentally) from last years injury. But Reed came in, unexperienced, and out performed. Will his passing get dialed in over the off season? He was definitely improving, noticed he was throwing with a little more touch, making reads a little better towards the end. Heck yes we need a couple of Plug & Play QB's. We have a QB situation lol.

This team's schedule will be true freshmen next fall!
