I wish he stayed. I can't believe he wouldn't have been a rotational NT for us. Oh, well...

If we land Davis, it is probably him and Lee starting. May be tough to hang on to Dez Ricks and the Georgia kid that just transferred in after spring ball Such is life in the transfer portal
CB2's play and play a lot. I doubt any of the two deep at CB will be transferring anytime soon. Now if you fall beyond the 2 deep sure.

To be fair he was supposed to be this year as well. He just hasn't played yet whether it's due to injury or passed up i don't know.

Good news on Klare is that he made his last visit to Louisville yesterday, so a decision should come very soon. Bad news is that he made it to the Louisville visit, because they were always considered the front runner with Brohm having recruited him and the proximity to home. Crossing my fingers here because I heard we impressed him quite a bit on his trip, but Louisville just makes so much sense for him.

Better than Texas. Would still love to get him, and it sucks to miss a guy regardless of where he goes. But if not here, Louisville is definitely the next best thing.

We did impress him but I absolutely would not be shocked if he ends up at Louisville.

Still need help with several positions, but EDGE is the most urgent IMO.

Only ones we need at this time are 2 DE and maybe 1 DT.

After that it's nice to haves. Which I think we will get a coupke of.

Looch and brauny have both said today 4 defensive lineman total probably.

Looch even said up to 5, but that 4 is the likely number.

3 DE and 1 DT if we take 4
3 DE and 2 DT if we take 5

Gotta be honest, we're either missing on a ton of transfers this year or staff feels good about the underclassmen playing a lot. Because with guys out of eligibility, leaving early for nfl or transferring out has far exceeded the 5 guys coming in.
Looking at players who have entered the portal, most of the top 200 are committed already. I'm all for being patient and getting the right fit, but this has me a little uneasy.

Including the incoming fish, we have about 79 slated to be on scholarship right now. Sec rule is still 85

We only have room for 6 more plus whatever other attrition we have. Let's call it about 8-9 for a total of 13-14 total transfers.

Last year at this time, we had 5 commitments. We ended up with 25 transfer players. In a perfect world, we'd have about 8 committed, but it's no where close to the end of the world. I'm a little concerned/interested to see how DL finishes up, but still cautiously optimistic. Dl will really tell the story on how portal recruiting went. Too early to judge

Agree about the dline. I just know we have had a lot of visitors without commitments. Would be interesting what those conversations sound like vs the BS kiffen sells at ole miss

Kiffen is in it to win it now at all costs ... he'll have prob the top signing transfer class when it's all said and done (LSU chasing the same algorithm).

Think we are in convos, but either we don't pay as much or some aren't buying the strategy/direction (or we decide not the 'right character' fits and feedback from current teammates).

We are definitely missing on top edges (only Purdue kid still in play) as we are moving down the list or 'waiting' to see if someone else hits the portal window off a CFP based team.

Personally want to see 2 DTs for depth there, but the upper echelon didn't even put us on their radar per many sites.

Was this the OT we were supposedly interested in for a bit or just hearsay (World from Nevada who just committed to Oregon)? Maybe that faded once Zuhn hinted/stated he's coming back?

I've heard we lost out on World because he wanted a guarantee he'd be the starter and we couldn't do that. I'm sure other misses have wanted something similar as well.

Oftentimes, they aren't on our radar, either. Just because they are rated high. The portal rankings are a massive crapshoot. Even worse than high school.

Actually I said 79 in my previous post, I did some numbers and a couple I'm not sure on but may still be on the roster, so we may have 81 on scholarship right now. We will still lose a few more, but probably not 10-15 more in all likelihood. So that means we probably only have 10, 12, maybe 14 spots at most.

The biggest difference could be the amount each are willing and able to pay overall, but it also could simply be roster spots. We have much less than Ole Miss. We return more of our previous roster and added 25 (26 with Karner) new recruits versus 22 for them. So that's 4 spots already. Add the fact that they had far more SRs exhaust eligibility. I think they are returning closer to 40 guys where we return closer to 50.

So yes, while we have missed some guys (Nic Anderson probably the single biggest one we wanted greatly), in reality, we were never planning to have 10-12 commits this early like Ole Miss, Tech, LSU, etc., because we are only taking about 10-14 to begin with and there's a long ways to go with probably 500+ more portal entries to even occur.

So maybe we wished to have 7-8 committed now, including Anderson, maybe Max Klare, and having landed at least one of the DL. But that's about it.

Both OTs were mostly contingent on what we thought our 3 RSR OTs were doing. We feel good about the best one in Zuhn, and I'm sure we get at least one and maybe both of Crownover/Fatheree back. Neither was coming here to compete with 3 other guys for 2 spots. They want a clearer path to start.

I know that people think the only way to get better is to add portal players, but in reality, MOST positions for a well run program get better due to developing what you have. When we have 5 RSR OL on the roster next year who have played a lot of ball, you should be turning that into a strength.

DL and WR were the two obvious ones that need help beyond just developing what you have. Both for depth and playmakers. WR has an A- right now and is one productive player away from an A+. DL is the massive unknown on how it unfolds.

I've heard we were looking at taking 10-15 transfers this cycle.

We already have 5 and we will likely add another WR so that means we have 4-9 spots left. We know we are after DL, Edge, and maybe another pass catching TE.

If Liucci is correct and we want 4 or 5 total DL that means we have 0-4 spots for TE and best available.

And I 100% agree when building a program the portal is supplemental and shouldn't be relied on.

We can fill in the pass catching TE and WR with Robinson. So we will have extra space to go boost that defense
90ags
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree with beerad12man and you on all of this and that portal should be supplemental at best. But, we do need some players ... again, I think even 2 deep at DT is questionable on the current roster (esp w experience, but get we have some incoming freshmen maybe sold on being in the 2 deep -- Sanders 'kept his word', but hinted he was almost swayed away until his Dad's teachings about keeping one's word).

Get OT and personally think we've backed off once Zuhn re-confirmed.

I just don't think chasing bodies on what is 'out there' (who's really interested in us at the moment) will be the MO. Know part of this has soured on the staff as thought we had a couple 'very close' who recently chose other SEC schools (and why Elko stating really don't know until they are officially signed and on campus).

looking at our list of transfer outs, he was the only one I was really hoping to come back. I think he would of played alot for us next year.

That's not true. He's not a TE. Go look at his film. He's an outside, go up and get it type receiver which we already have in Noah

Assuming he would be healthy, he's been injured on and off constantly....it's the only reason he wasn't playing more to start with.

Horton would be a great pick up. But he's likely Bama bound.

Only other WR I'd want more right now is Malachi Fields. But I'm not sure we are even remotely on his radar. haven't heard anything.

Conception in that top group as well. Just hope we can split at least one of Horton and Concepcion with Bama. Would be an A group at WR for sure.
