I'm not for sure but I've heard a name for TE/SC but nothing for WR. That's why I said TE/ST
I expect there will be a lot on here with as bad as our ST has been that will be upset we won't have a ST coach that is their lone job. But being realistic with the limited number of on field coaches it's a smart move. There's no reason a position coach like a TE coach can't dedicate time to ST.

Fisher's issue is he got by with the lie of "it's a group effort". When in reality Fisher just put out there what he wanted and it was ignored. All our ST and specialists were regressing.

Need a list of whose names have surfaced and who has either gone elsewhere or gotten a raise to stay where they are. I can't keep up!

Given that they've added Spencer and Aristide it's almost a certainty we have our DC. They likely would not have done that with the DC being on board. For some reason they have yet to publicly announce the hire.

Since it looks like he's been talking to others about the position, it seems doubtful he's planning on doing it himself.

No way we allow that after the Jimbo OC fiasco.

Fuller is the only DC "candidate" that got a raise/we've missed on so far. But I'm not sure he was ever really consisered a true candidate. It was kind of a if want it it yours thing. Nothing formal or really heavily pursued.

I wouldn't put a lot of certainty in that statement. Agree they might already have their guy for DC but in coaching changes like this it's not that all uncommon for the head coach to make some position hires without the coordinator in place. Especially given Elko is a defensive guy so if he has some defensive position coaches he likes he would likely hire them with or without a DC on board.

Not to mention Fuller might have deserved that raise regardless. To keep him at FSU with the defense they had this year you have to believe he had many suiters.

Outside of Robinson which is a special case, I don't think you'll see a statement of someone out when they are fulfilling the rest of their duties this year coaching the bowl game.

The fact that he doesn't already have another job like Petrino is more surprising with me. Not a big fan myself but he had a good defense numbers wise (I give the talent more credit than Durkin). You'd think with the old staff on the way out he'd have some programs after him.

LSU also wanted Fuller.

FSU did what they needed to in order to take him off the board.

At this point I think Durkin may be the "if we can't find anyone better" option. I would like to see him go and get a younger coach but maybe under Elko he can get a better understanding of the defense he was trying to run

Elko's a four man front, Durkin's a three man. Not sure their views are compatible.

Durka Durk isn't staying. There's no way. Their philosophies on defense are so different. It's hard to see a landscape where those two come together in a way that is productive and collaborative.

Wrong

Both are 4 man fronts but Elko is 1 gap and Durkin is 2 gap.

Liucci said on the radio Elko will bring a guy in that matches his philosophy.

So that eliminates a few names.

This.

The 3 man fronts this year that got all the attention that were often torched isn't Durkin's base defense. Again they just got all the attention arguably because he stuck with it in times it wasn't working. But percentage wise Durkin had us in a 4 man front more often.

Would love to see him at A&M; however, I believe he's made it known he isn't interested in leaving the state of MS (his family is there).

Edit: Was replying to a post about Coach Luka^^
Also; I would love to see a DC named this week.

I'm guessing that we will really see things shake out after the bowl game on the 27th. I'd also like to see when some of the contracts will be up with the existing position coaches.

I believe this is our current obstacle to announcing some hires. Wouldn't be shocked if players and recruits know more than the public do on this front.

I don't see contracts of existing position coaches or DCs on non-CFP bowl teams being obstacles.

That's why I think it's one (or both!) of Washington's co-DCs. Run a 4-2-5 base & both make $725k. Both were at Fresno for Deboer's two years there (Inge as DC/LB coach & Morrell as Safeties) and both followed Deboer to UW.

Getting both fills the three openings we have (DC, LB, & Safeties), and we can afford both while giving them both nice bumps. If it's one, I would guess we get Inge, as Morrell has longtime ties to Deboer from back at Sioux Falls.

Seems logical. I don't necessarily question that could be, but I don't exactly like it if that's the case. Washington was 90th in total D giving up almost 6 yards per play and 400 yard per game. It's the offensive side of the ball that made Washington good.

But could be a case of a trusting relationship that will call Elko's D.

Those numbers are also the reason I think sips got a very favorable matchup in the playoff. I think we have the two best teams playing in Bama and Michigan.

The hire I wish we'd hear some news on which I actually think is a more important hire than DC at this point is Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Sounds like Elko wants an independent DC that can come in and run his own defense as long as he runs it the way Elko wants it run.

We seem to have always struggled with this hire. This one needs to be a home run, and someone we can keep around for a while.

Hear, hear!

S&C coach sets the culture for the team. The kids work with that coach probably more than any other. If that coach instills grit & hard work ethic, the team will follow. If they let the guys slack off, you'll see it on the field.

When we had Jerry Schmidt, those teams did much better & had a lot more fight. After he went back to OU, things really fell off.

S&C coach needs to be an absolute solid hire.

The right regimen can also help prevent some of the soft-tissue injuries. It can't protect against broken bones, but it can really help to have everyone as healthy as possible.

Agree, and it makes no sense with the facilities we have. Anything and everything a strength coach could want we got it and more.

Been saying all year the upward trajectory the team seemed to be on under Fisher seemed to start sliding backwards down the mountain when Schmidt left.
