Is there a reason McGriff wanted to return to Auburn. Why did he come here in the first place?

Strange things going on at Auburn. I think Coach Freeze has let go at least two assistants recently.

Zac Etheridge just left for UH so the DB coach position opened up. McGriff had an off the field position in 2023.

Not 100% true. He started the season on the field but had issues with the DC and moved to an off the field role. He wanted out because of the DC. Freeze fired Robert's and offered McGriff the role of DB coach. But the main reason he's returning is family.

What did I post that was wrong?

Just adding more details. Someone could easily think he started the year as an off field coach with what you said. Plus if Ron Robert's was still there he wouldn't be going back.

Thanks to both of you. That now makes sense for him wanting to go back.

No

Any updates on the safety coach?

Nothing solid enough to share. I don't like to post news that could very well be unfounded rumors. Within the next week I suspect we have a hire.

I also appreciate Peterson's letterman experience with us, but was pointing out hopeful info about his coaching today. I think it's important to see both.

Absolutely. His coaching resume is what qualifies him for this role. I was just reminiscing on his playing days here.

This is another great hire by Elko and may work out even better than McGriff if he'd had stayed.

Peterson's twitter also list him as CO-DC.

Maybe that's been discussed and I missed it.

He was Co-DC at Kansas, is he also listed as this here? I thought he was only the safeties coach.

Would've preferred Elko be able to award him the promotion to Co-DC here rather than KU. But he earned it at Kansas so hopefully it translates here immediately.
