Forget Sumlin and consider "who's next". If you can't answer that, realistically, with a PROVEN P5 coach then you are dooming us to at least 4 more years of worse than the last 4.

Who is available and willing and among that limited pool who could we get?

It isn't about FIRING Sumlin it is about REPLACING him. Most of you just want "someone else" and THAT would be the true disaster.

Consider the sips. I hate them but have to admit they are a better destination (on the whole) than Aggieland - and look where they are.

He failed the Sherrill standard.....has not won a division championship/conference championship by 4th year. . A&M is a very generous school . Must have lots of money to burn on 8-5 coaches.

Better to be trying to get a new coach rather than one that proven to be mediocre.

Great fans deserve great results. We don't give what we do to this university and program for 8-5. Have some self-respect Aggies.

We actually could have a shot at Chip Kelly who could have a return from the NFL life Saban.... Or we could wait until Kubiak leaves Denver and snag that man.

Saban, Meyer, et al were not proven coaches when they won their first championships. Those "proven" coaches who have established championship programs are not going to become available anytime soon. They can command a salary at their current location equal to our greater than anything we could offer and they don't even have to move. They'll only move for a dream job like working for their alma mater or a place really close to their family. Getting a "proven" P5 coach simply isn't going to ever happen, but that doesn't mean we should keep Sumlin in perpetuity. We shouldn't even keep him through his contract.

You say that anyone we get will do worse than 8-5 as if it is some kind of certainty. Why? There are plenty of coaches that could go 8-5 with us. Almost any, really, considering our schedule. There's several other coaches in the SEC regularly going 8-5 or better right now, and some of those regularly kick our ***.

Even if we did do worse, would that be such a disaster? What's the difference between an 8-5 season with embarrassing losses and a 5-7 season? A crappy bowl game? At the end of the day, there's not much difference. We're not in contention for a championship of any sort in either one, and if whoever we hire does worse, we'll move on to someone else.

Sumlin has proven his ceiling. He has proven he is incapable of building a championship program. Over 5 years he has shown absolutely no improvement. If anything this team has regressed. If 8-5 and 4th in the West is your idea of success, then by all means continue your support because that is pretty much all you'll ever get from the man.




This, "But it could get worse," attitude is what leads to settling and mediocrity. It's how you marry a 5 with a ****ty personality because it's easier than getting rejected by a few 8's before you find one. It very well could get worse, but could is the key word there. There's nothing to say that it will. And if it's bad already, who cares if it gets worse? It sure as hell ain't great, and it sure as hell ain't getting great. If it gets worse, then just move on until you find great. There's no reason to ever settle for, "not bad."

He needs at least another year maybe two to turn it around. If not a serious contender by then, he needs to go.

Figure a solid prospect like Morris has a 50/50 shot at success. Sumlin has far less chance. Simple Math.

He has had 5 years and other than year one he has been either spinning his wheels or going in reverse. At some point you have to admit that enough is enough and move on.

He's got to go. At what point do you stop blaming talent level?

ALL other things being equal....if Saban had come here in 2012 we would at least have an SEC title and probably have played for a natty.
