Los Nortenos is no mas.
We took BYOB too far when we had some beer in a keg left over and dragged it into the restaurant once.

Miss me some Los Norteños.
Rip on Los Nortenos.

Didn't know it at the time, but the place was legit.

When Los Nortenos was too crowded, we would go to Dos Hermanos.

A few from the mid to late 1980s
Archy's Burgers - (Older brother would bring home a bag or 2 of burgers)
Flying Tomato Pizza - on Northgate, light crispy thick crust pizza
Double Dave's Pizza - Peproni Rolls, funny that I never set foot in the restaurant, it was only delivered
Fajita Rita's (Mother in law couldn't pronounce it correctly to save her life)
Arby's - I think it was 5 beef sandwiches for $5.
Little Caesar's pizza - lots of Pizza! Pizza! - close to Krenek Tap Road
Ate a lot of junk food in the MSC between playing Afterburner and Discs of Tron in the basement.

What was the Mexican food place out east of the 6 bypass from CS, in an old Spanish style home? Loved their Chimichangas!

Special Places
El Chico - (Yes, El Chico's) took my now wife there on a first date movie night after Top Gun. It was not a planned dinner, but we were starving and they were open.
Red Lobster - Took her on the second date, knew she said loved lobster, wanted her to have lobster, she orders chicken.
Cenares - Dinner before I proposed to her
Shiloh Inn - Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
I would also like to know the name of that Mexican restaurant. Went there with my family when I graduated and it was really good. I thought it was out Harvey Road but I've looked at maps and can't find anything that remotely looks like what could have been that place.

I wrote a blog entry six years ago about food I missed. Here is the section about A&M.

"From 1978 to 1982 we were blessed by the absence of big city chain restaurants who eventually showed up and drove all the local joints out of business. Places like Tinsleys (fantastic fried chicken), Peppers (amazing burgers and even better fries), Danvers (first burger joint where you could substitute a salad bar for fries), Youngbloods (home of the Aggie Special Chicken Friend Steak to die for), Farmer's Market (lovely little sub shop right across the street from the campus), The Underground Burger (sold at the Sbisa Underground, which is still there but the burger isn't). The Underground Burger was Beef, Canadian Bacon, Swiss Cheese, and heaven. The Commons Cafeteria (yes, this school cafeteria was amazing with all you can eat pizza, hamburgers, subs, and salad bar), and Fort Shiloh (western themed steak house with good steaks and a great salad bar). My wife and I ate our way through college here and all of them are now gone."

Other places that are gone....
Pelican's Wharf
DSP (Dead Solid Perfect burgers) I think they were gone before I graduated

I'm class of '86 and I don't recall any of those.

Tampico in Bryan. Old one, not the attempted reboot.

Yeah most of those were there. Youngblood's was awesome. It's Carneys now. I would only question the praise for the Commons cafeteria, I mean it was ok but only if you didn't have a way to get off campus.

The **** Hut, Northgate, 1969. It was kind of like a Dairy Queen. I don't remember the real name.
We went to Monterey House and Moms in Bryan.
There was a place that delivered pizzas to the dorms.

No idea who long it's been there or if it's even still there, but when I lived in B/CS, my favorite Tex Mex place was El Sol de Mexico in Bryan on Texas at MLK. Best food in town as far as I was concerned, and it was cheap.

It's still there. They also have a second location in the HEB shopping center at Texas and Villa Maria.

I'm certain that place was on Harvey to the east of the 6 bypass. I lived in one of the apartment complexes right across from the mall. My mom stopped on by one day and took me to eat there, think my freshman year, and for the next couple of years, I recall thinking that was the only Mexican place in Aggieland. Yeah, I hadn't gotten out much until later, when I started working a job in Bryan and was introduced to the many places there, notably Los Nortenos. RIP

Chicken Oil - Took my teams there almost everytime I visited before it burned

Double Daves

Freebirds on Northgate - the OG. Went there at least one day a week during college, sat at the same table, same spots for all my buddies. If someone was gone, we put a bbq sauce in their place. Always dreaded getting "sweaty guy" to make my food, he would almost always be dripping sweat off his nose

Papa Perez - one of the only places you could go on a game weekend Friday night in town and not wait 2 hours. Wife and I were regulars

Stover Brothers on Wellborn - The OG, where it all started

Bennigans on Texas

Grapevine - best twice baked potatoes around

Fajita Ritas

Hullabaloo Diner in Wellborn

Probably already mentioned but is the Kettle restaurant on Texas Ave in Bryan still there? If it is still there it has to have been around for a long time.

Did not survive Covid.

Took my older son (class of '21) to Carneys a couple of months ago, played shuffleboard and drank Shiner Boch. He said he never went there during college and loved it.

I asked a bartender if Ptarmigan is still around, and he said not to the public. They shut down during Covid but still host private parties.

Oh, and Wings and More opened up when I was in college in the 80's and is thriving.
Loved Ptarmigan's raw oysters n draft beer.

Is Sodolaks any good? The wife and I are going to BCS this weekend to see our kid. Staying at the LaSalle and looking for a good dinner joint.
