I believe there was and still is an Italian place that served calzones as big as a table.

Somehow this thread went from…"what are some old school places in BSC still around today?" to "let's name some obscure restaurants I once ate at in 1974 that exchanged cash money for food?"

Loved the Silk Stocking. Fish Tacos were pretty gamey though. Famunda cheese enchiladas were awesome, only cost $1 for each.

Ahh yes the dirty sock

We took BYOB too far when we had some beer in a keg left over and dragged it into the restaurant once.

Miss me some Los Norteños.

Took my older son (class of '21) to Carneys a couple of months ago, played shuffleboard and drank Shiner Boch. He said he never went there during college and loved it.

I asked a bartender if Ptarmigan is still around, and he said not to the public. They shut down during Covid but still host private parties.

Oh, and Wings and More opened up when I was in college in the 80's and is thriving.

Casa Tomas (affectionately referred to as Casa Ptomaine) was a classic for $.99 offerings.

Don't recall that hitting a spot for us. Even Youngblood's or the Aggie Kitchen were for "When the Folks Came."

Hell, we couldn't splurge at Monterry House except for the Wednesday Specials. And remember, the Whataburger w Cheese, & Lg Drink was like $1.25.

I think Monterrey House was a chain, not just local to College Station.

Anyone say La Taqueria? A large sweet tea with queso and chips was the perfect hangover cure.

Cow Hop and Kettle were there when I was in CS. Now both are gone.

My favorite was the Fatburger on University Drive behind the McDonalds. I was a lolpoor so that was heavenly.

A few from the mid to late 1980s
Archy's Burgers - (Older brother would bring home a bag or 2 of burgers)
Flying Tomato Pizza - on Northgate, light crispy thick crust pizza
Double Dave's Pizza - Peproni Rolls, funny that I never set foot in the restaurant, it was only delivered
Fajita Rita's (Mother in law couldn't pronounce it correctly to save her life)
Arby's - I think it was 5 beef sandwiches for $5.
Little Caesar's pizza - lots of Pizza! Pizza! - close to Krenek Tap Road
Ate a lot of junk food in the MSC between playing Afterburner and Discs of Tron in the basement.

What was the Mexican food place out east of the 6 bypass from CS, in an old Spanish style home? Loved their Chimichangas!

Special Places
El Chico - (Yes, El Chico's) took my now wife there on a first date movie night after Top Gun. It was not a planned dinner, but we were starving and they were open.
Red Lobster - Took her on the second date, knew she said loved lobster, wanted her to have lobster, she orders chicken.
Cenares - Dinner before I proposed to her
Shiloh Inn - Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
Spica

Back in my day in the 70s restaurant options were limited. But there were a few of note that I really liked:

The Texan
Tokyo Steakhouse
Interurban
The Captain's Table
Tom's BBQ
Pelicans Wharf
Youngbloods

Martins Bbq?
That old shack in Bryan would sometimes have groups with a buffet for flat price, but you had to have 30 people guaranteed. Needless to say they never did that again for our crew. They were good sports and kept rolling out the bbq football players and other big guys who just liked to eat. I can remember them saying they ate all the meat, then other worker said hell they've eaten all the coke slaw, potato salad and beans well.

I worked at both Little Caesar's and El Chico when I was there in the 90's. Both are now shuttered, now thinking I may have been the common variable?
