The egg roll house
Grew up in B/CS.

Never knew anyone who ate there.

Rumor had it that they sold drugs out the back.

Probably not true....but my dad went in there one time and left when the people inside were amazed he wanted food.

Ralph's Pizza and the A&W Root Beer stand had a pretty good hamburger in the early 70's. There was a place called the "**** Hut" down the street from Loupots. It looked like a Dairy Queen and I would get a burger to go. More than once when I would get back to the dorm to eat I would find that they left out the Meat. They had several employees from India who thought that the meat was like pickles (not an important part of a hamburger). Pretty funny looking back cause I would take it back and the owner would apologize and tell the Indians, "Remember the meat, every likes meat here!"

Mom's was a boarding house in the early 60s. Her lunches were .75 and payment was on the honor system placed in a dish that was on the mantle.

I lived in Moore Hall my first semester, which was across the street from the **** Hut..... I remember it well, and the burgers weren't too bad ! Never had a problem with the missing meat.

My Chemistry prof (Dr. Brooks) would hold a Thursday evening help session each week. We'd start about 7pm and he'd take questions from whoever showed up. When it got to be about 8 pm, he'd call it quits and say "I'm headed to Ralph's, and I'll buy the first pitcher .... but you're going to have to get your own pizza" !. And indeed he did always buy the first pitcher. Loved Ralph's, and loved Dr. Brooks ! Thanks to him I actually learned a lot about chemistry in my freshman chemistry 101 class!

Was anybody else a fan of Luby's on South Texas Ave in Bryan?
A well spent afternoon there was their baked white fish with cole slaw, cornbread and a dessert of pecan pie w/coffee. The lady doing the beverage cart service was this older English lady with an eccentric streak. Afterwards you could go browse in Half-Price Books (pre-internet days obviously). We're talking late 70s-mid 80s.

Chicken Oil was a Sunday staple in the late 70's. Double meat, double cheese deathburger was great for a hangover, washed down with a 24 Oz Fosters. Then some pool.

Maybe VERY late 70's.
Old Red Lion, then Nothing for Several yrs.
Texan - Gone
Buccaneer- Gone
Shipley's - Gone
Monterrey House - Gone
Luby's - Gone
MOM's - Gone
Aggie Kitchen - Gone
EAST Gate Lounge- Gone
Sparky's - GONE
McDonald's - Not Yet

About the ONLY thing that was there in early 70's is the CS Whataburger.

College Station ended at SW Parkway. Wellborn was a 2 lane deserted road. They barely had the By-Pass finished.

Absolutely. They sold meal cards and you could live on campus and not have to eat at Sbisa.

Some late 80s early 90s placss. Two pesos before crappie cab no wonder the lawsuit. Tom's BBQ that someone earlier mentioned is now Brisket House in Houston. BTW it is awesome every time I go there it is really good ie the aggie special which is now just called the special. Lastly not I College Station hut in Lake Somerville, there was a steak joint there that had these huge steaks 24 oz for like $12 and apparently had a butcher or meat processing or whatever in the back.

Have a field day on that.

Somerville steak house was pretty amazing for massive steaks.
