Also worked as OC for OU and Stoops when they won a natty. But yeah, he's an underachiever.

I believe Sumlin has a constant juggling act between potential success of the program and potential success for his coaches and coaching tree. Can't be easy. The more years go by without substantial program altering wins, the more the focus may shift from personal relationships for the good of the staff to the need to win for the sake of the program. However, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Isn't Mangino notorious for being a total a-hole to players and pretty much everyone else? Might not be the best guy to bring in if there's any truth to Lopez's talk about division and lack of buy-in among the players.

Haha. Well I still think he wouldn't be fired and replaced mid-season for that. There'd have to be more to it, especially if Mangino was the replacement. It'd be worth a mid-season firing if Kingsbury decided he wanted to come back and start today, but Mangino isn't worth that on his own merit.

Lopez wrote a narrative based off the outside looking in approach. He has no inner connections with the team, and has no proof that the locker room is fractured / no buy in among the players other than the single incident with Kyler Murray whom allegedly cussed out Spav. That's one player, a quarterback, that allegedly doesn't buy in, not a team.

Making a highly talented pocket-passer roll out on a majority of his passes is pretty similar to taking one of the top passing high school QBs in the state and making him run an option

I am really surprised that our O is as bad as it is. It appears we have more talent on that side of the ball than most of the other teams. So any OC change should see immediate success at any time. Let Kyle or Murray call their own plays, it would be an improvement. Maybe just do sandlot football plays. See ya, Spav - you have got to go.

With all this Mangino talk, I started thinking about actually coaches that would make sense to come in mid-season. I don't think we would just swap OCs, but hire an offensive consultant. Why not bring in a guy like June Jones? Just a thought.

I actually looked him up just before I got to this page and I don't see that he's landed anywhere. Its ashame he got caught up in the coaching change in the off-season. I think he has a lot of potential and I hope he gets in with a good head coach and system. He has the potential to be at A&M, but he'll need more on his resume, first.

And if I have the years right, he and Sumlin were never on staff together. Doesn't mean they don't know each other, but I doubt they have enough of a relationship for Sumlin to push him up the ladder faster than necessary.

There is no way someone is going to come in from outside the staff and call plays. None. It would be crazy. The OC is expected to know the offense, know the personnel and call the game mid season? Lunacy.

On top of that, who would get fired? Spav or Morehead? Then who coaches those positions? Christensen? At least that would be a like for like change, but are we really going to fire Christensen now?
