If you use the ShopPay App they have a really good promo on FreakAthlete right now (in addition to any other company code promo you might get).

Says save $305 on orders over $790.

I have somewhat surprisingly gained about 10 lbs since May. Mostly muscle, thankfully.

I've been more disciplined about work outs (3-4x per week) and then consuming protein and creatine post workout. I have no idea what kind of impact this might have (if any) but we also moved from sea level to 7,200 ft in May.

My gear is simple because I don't do a lot of actual weight lifting anymore:

- Bowflex bench
- Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells
- Bosu ball
- Foam roller

That's all I have. I do mostly bodyweight exercises. Dumbells are used primarily for biceps, triceps, shoulders, and back work with bench assist. My workouts are Push, Pull, Legs and then a Full Body workout every week. I do Planks with every workout no matter what for core. The main piece of equipment I'm missing that I would like to have is a stand alone pull-up bar which I've researched but hesitant to pull the trigger. I do not want one that leverages the door frame because it will scratch up the wall and doors and wife will lose it. And it needs to be a small footprint and/or collapsible.

My "gym" is a converted bedroom with Berber carpet and then a 8x10 mat over that which allows me to work out barefoot which I've discovered I enjoy as well. Feels like I've improved my balance and lower body strength by working out barefoot.

What do y'all mainly do for post workout recovery?

I strength train 1-2 a week and cycle twice a week. I aim to drink a protein shake after strength training, but most of the protein shakes seems to have a lot of sugar. What do y'all typically do post workout and what products do you use?

If you are going to do protein powder, just buy one with little to no sugar and mix with water, milk, or almond milk. There are tons of options here.

I do above plus 5g of Creatine Monohydrate after my workouts, currently.

Something like OnNutrition Whey protein does not have much sugar. Processed, sure. But, if you are struggling to meat protein goals, its better to get it in than not.

I think the Quest ones may be sugar free too?

But yeah I just do the ON Gold Standard… the sugar in it is pretty minimal.

I try to get my protein from "real" foods when I can, but I do mix protein powder with Greek yogurt occasionally.

Immediate post workout I've got mini chocolate milks in my garage fridge waiting for me, so usually have one of those and a meat stick to hold me over as I get ready for work and when I eat a proper breakfast. I'll also drink a serving of creatine/taurine/electrolytes.

I need to actually find a protein powder alternative for myself. What I've been using has become got dang expensive.

Yes, chocolate milk here as well. You need quick, digestible carbs (i.e. sugar), after weight training at least. Then that's followed up by whatever I am eating for dinner / lunch post-workout.

Serious question- why are we worried about sugar in a post-workout recovery drink?

If there is EVER a time to not worry at all about a few grams of sugar, it's after a lifting session

Good point. I'm not all that worried about it myself. Mine has 2g of sugar in it, but no added sugar. Don't even think about it. I'm assuming the poster who asked may be looking at pre-made protein products that have a lot of added sugar and other crap in it?

I'm using Naked Whey which is essentially just 100% whey protein. I mix it with milk or almond milk and that's it.

Yo!
Yeah, no more stars. Haven't had them in several years. Just don't post as much as I used to.

Email might be better to reach me:

Hope you're doing well! Still in Sonoma?
