Flew out of Terminal D on Tuesday night. Security was a shot show and it wasn't even crowded - can't imagine how bad it would be due on a busy day. The new wing of D is nice.

Landed at Heathrow. Total time standing in line to go through passport control - 45 seconds. That is not a typo. Sure wish Houston would be so good when we return but it won't (and I'm Global Entry)

Flying out of c tomorrow at 7 PM. I haven't flown out of IAH in 2 months. Is A/B valet still the way to go? Thx

Sucks a little bit because you have to walk around the building at B due to construction, but still better than going anywhere near the C garage, IMO. Just did it a couple days ago and was fine.

Flying IAH to CDG via EWR this morning through terminal E.

Uber driver decided to drop us off at C; however, time through security to first mimosa at the E United club was 12 minutes. No one in line at C's TSA security check point.

No checked bag.

I think that is because you still cant be dropped off or picked up at E thanks to construction. I may be wrong though.

I'm pretty confident in that as well, at least that's what I told the wife when she wanted lambast the Uber driver.

One note of good(ish) news about the new machines at the garages. I parked at CDE garage last week and the machine couldn't read the QR code on my phone to enter. I was in a hurry so I took a ticket and went on in to park. When I needed to exit, I inserted the ticket and then was able to scan the QR code to exit. This is a big step up from before when I've had to flag down a disinterested employee who then had to fill out a hand written paper slip before they'd let me leave.

I had a 6:45PM flight on Monday and traffic wasn't too bad on the C/D/E side, but as always I think it's just a crapshoot

Like an idiot we booked a flight for our son back to school the Sunday night of Thanksgiving Weekend. Took two hours to drop him off. 30 minute commute and last 2 miles took 90 minutes.

Thankfully we were expecting it to be a nightmare so he got there in plenty of time, but there were several people just jumping out of cars and running down the road with their luggage.

In December, I'm flying to Bali with a layover in Dubai, how do I avoid the Taliban in our Afghani airport? Been a while since I have flown international.
What airline? If you are flying United, check in and clear security at B, then ride the train to the terminal you are flying from. If it is an airline only going out of CDE, you might just have to bite the bullet and go early. You could get dropped off at B and ride the Disney train in the basement over to your terminal, but with as slow as that train is, you might not save any time.

Quatar, so its D. Thinking I'll just park in cheapo parking and ride the tram. Sounds better than what y'all are describing.

Super easy, airport was empty. I parked in B valet.

All the way to Paris with no checked bag, that's some light travel...

I'm in France now and flew from IAH to Heathrow last Thursday through terminal C. Took maybe 10 minutes to get through.

Quick trip for us, two nights in Strasbourg on the front end then two nights in Paris. Our train from CDG to Strasbourg was soon after landing, so we couldn't gamble with any checked luggage.

Seems we're now the type of people who have to Christmas shop in Europe…

New ruling party in Syria to have Damascus airport operations fully restore soon - if you'd like an example of some professionals at work:

Quote:

Damascus airport, closed since the opposition took control of the Syrian capital, will reopen "in the next few days", its director Anis Fallouh told AFP on Wednesday.

"God willing, the airport will reopen as quickly as possible because we are going to work flat out," Fallouh said.

We could never.

I just happened to be trying to get out of the garage on the first day they brought the new system online. It took about 40 minutes for me to get out of the CDE garage that day.

However, I've traveled 2-3 times since then and the system worked great. I reserve in advance. A camera reads my license plate as I approach the gate and it automatically opens up. I haven't had to scan anything upon entry or exit.

A few weeks ago I was returning from a 48 hour trip and come back to find my car had been broken into at the C terminal parking garage on the 4th floor. Stole some items I had in the back. I've lived in Houston for over a decade and never had any theft. This is one of the last places I expected my car to get broken into. When I spoke with the police and the parking garage manager that day, they made it sound like it happens a lot. $25/day and they can't secure the onsite parking garage at the airport?

Do they not have cameras all over that record every car that comes in and what they do?

If they get bad enough at protecting the cars in their lots, maybe people will just start using the other parking lots connected to the airport. Oh wait...

Why should they care what happens to your car in their lot? Not like you have other options to use if you want to park at the airport and not have to ride a shuttle bus.

I can solve this one.

Look at video camera of people entering.
Note all the Nissan Altimas with temp paper plates.
Then see if the driver has a hoodie on and a mask.
Check with bumper sticker to make sure it doesn't have a Harris Walz sticker.

Bam case solved.

I they are smart, they have a friend drop them off with a suitcase at the curbside dropoff, then the friend walks to the parking garage, steals what he wants and fills up the suitcase with it, then walks back to the curb and gets picked up by friend who was waiting in the cell phone lot.

We do Ecopark all the time on JFK. Prepay and reserve for covered parking. The wait has rarely ever been long to get picked up and usually the line to get back is pretty minimal. Plus parking in covered has made us the 1st or 2nd stop in drop offs every single time, even on full busses.

FYI. On Saturday I went to pick up a relative coming from overseas to visit for the holidays and if you don't know, the temporary pick up are is no more. The new international pick up at E is now open with 4 lanes available. Make sure you get on the left most lane when you start arriving at the split of C-D and once you clear the bottleneck is clear sail and the exit after picking up is a breeze. Not sure how this impacts Ubers/Lyfts but for picking up is a big improvement.

arrived late on Saturday from London. BA gates are in the new wing of terminal D - it's a freaking hike to passport control. Old folks will have a hard time with that jaunt. Global Entry was a breeze for once - still not as efficient as Heathrow but the line was very short. Baggage claim took forever - then its a long walk to get to the parking shuttles at D (not sure why there is no parking shuttle pick up right outside of terminal E customs arrival). That needs to be fixed ASAP.

My BF's CEO is visiting and was on that flight. BF said it took over an hour for checked bags to show up.

I don't think it was quite that long - but it was loooong. Not sure if it's a BA issue or IAH issue. I recall when my daughter visited from London last year that she had the same issue of a long wait for bags

Quote:

Bye-bye to our old, frustrating temporary curb! On Saturday, December 14, international arriving passengers will enjoy a new, expanded six-lane pickup area, ensuring a smoother and more convenient experience for travelers and drivers alike. Take a look at the comparison!

The last year or so IAH has been taking forever even for my domestic flight baggage claim. I travel too much for work and it amazes me how slow luggage at IAH has become. I'm not aware of any other airport that take longer these days. The past month or so alone I've been to 8 different airports and I think I could add up the entire wait time of those 8 to get what it takes me to get my bag at IAH, domestic or international. It didn't use to be this bad.

Some people when they travel for business have to take steel toes and hard hats. It makes fitting in a carryon quite difficult.

I got ceramic toe (so I could wear them through the x ray machine) and would wear them when flying. I would clip my hard had to my backpack.

When I did trips to Asia (VP of Sales) I would go for 2-3wks at a time about once a quarter. Was better than going once a month for a week.
