Serious question, though...

Seems like fares out of IAH have become astronomically high, especially compared to other ports. It's cheaper to fly to Denver on United out of Austin than IAH.

I booked travel to India for January out of Chicago as it was so much cheaper to fly out of there even with the extra leg to get there.

Why is that, all of a sudden?

The fares that went up during Covid never went back down for United / IAH.

Probably because there is no competition at IAH while AIS and Chicago do.

ORD is a also a hub for American; bith them amd UA have been fighting for the last 3ish years for gates and dominance there.... so dropping prices gets more butts in seats.
AUS is now primarily Delta and SW now, so again trying to get butts in seats.

Can't you just book a refundable ticket for later in the day and then cancel once you're done dropping them off?

Damn this place is a madhouse. Got a flat tire on the way to the airport which didn't help things this morning.

All of the united destination signage is messed up at the gates as well and the gate computer system crashed.

Remember back in the 80's and 90's when you could just walk into any terminal with your fam and watch your mom or dad or children fly off and you could wave to each other and it was all free and easy? Before pedophile worshiping savages from third world wastelands took that away from us?

Flew to ABQ by myself to stay with family friends when I was 8 back in 1989, but I had my mom with me to see me off at the terminal. A tad scary but felt awesome and I remember all of the flight staff being super cool, going out of their way to make me feel comfortable (like a memo had gone out or something).

No way I could have navigated modern airports and TSA lines at that age though. Believe it or not, I wasn't always...hardcore.

Yea this is the third year to do this for the 10 year old and second year for the 8 year old.

Dude it was insane. We had to go to three different places before we even got to security and then once at our gate the info boards were wrong. It would have been an absolute nightmare to try and navigate the modern airport alone as an 11 year old.

It was pretty cool they let us use clear even though I didn't have anything other than a gate pass though.

2 out of my last 3 flights have had gate switches. Last one wasn't too bad...the first time, we almost missed our flight because we were busy at the gate and I wasn't constantly checking my phone for last minute updates. We had to sprint to the other terminal. The gate change was almost criminally too-close to departure time.

It's to the point where you almost have to have someone dedicated to just checking for updates on the phone. I am just 45, I bet it really is a hassle for old people who think you shouldn't have to rely on phone apps for last minute switcharoo updates.

I do, but the time we almost missed, nothing came through and I was livid. That being said, I miss when you didn't have to keep checking your phone for last minute changes/updates. It's kind of tough when you are taking a family through the airport. Kids are the ultimate distraction...security line is extra challenging...and so is simply going to Pink's for a few slices of pizza...and if your fam wants to go to different places, it gets extra fun.

I get it, lesson learned, gotta stop every 5-10 minutes to check phone. Just an old man yelling at clouds.
