It's sad when even ORD and EWR have better lounges

They're incredibly nice.

The IAH lounges are terrible.

Agree but that's my point I guess, they've put so much in to other hub lounges and we're stuck with the **** at IAH

While a bit smaller when compared to others the centurion lounge is still pretty nice at IAH.

EWR is their primary hub to Europe. It makes sense that they would invest there, but even then those lounges aren't anywhere near the AF Salon at CDG or Maple Leaf at YYZ.

The Asian lounges in Singapore / Narita / etc are just so much better than all of them

IAH Centurion Lounge bartender told me the other day that the IAH lounge is going to expand soon. He said they will double in size and have two bars instead of one. I believe he said they'll start construction in January.

Hey - new parking garage ticket machines in terminal C! Maybe now we won't have to keep driving up to one, doesn't work, back up, try another one, doesn't work, back up and spend 30 minutes to get out of the garage!

If I need to get a ride back from IAH to home, should I Uber or taxi? Usually get picked up but schedule prevents hitching a ride.

Must be payback for the city building the international terminal for SW at Hobby against United's wishes.

NYC is a competitive market for long-haul and Houston really isn't. United knows they've got business here locked up.

Which is why United was so pissed when SW and Houston opened the international facility at Hobby to serve Latin America and the Caribbean. United was making bank screwing over Houstonians wanting non-stop flights to those locations. Now they have to at least try to be somewhat competitive. Though it is still significantly cheaper to fly from Austin through IAH to the Caribbean than it is to fly direct from IAH.

The people using the United lounge at IAH aren't taking their business to Southwest. The people with lounge access are a very specific type of traveler distinct from the general public. If there was real competition for those travelers, then United lounge would be nicer.

If you reserve your space it would be nice if they just used the plate readers to open the gate for you without needing to scan a code or anything.

That may have been the case before United and others started putting out their club CCs that gave the everyday riffraff access to the clubs. But the idea of SW stealing club traffic from United at IAH wasn't the point I was (somewhat jokingly) trying to make. I was somewhat jokingly saying that United was shunning IAH for upgrades because they are still mad at Houston for the international expansion at Hobby. SW can and has stolen some of United's Latin America and Caribbean traffic out of Houston and forced them to be more competitive on price, which has next to nothing to do with how many people use the United Clubs at IAH.

United club card is $600/yr so definitely not the standard riff raff

$525 for club card, $450 for business club card, and free for military personnel.

Take the underground tram to the Marriott and get an Uber there. I've had some family members use this strategy and seemed to work pretty well. Eliminates the crowds in the garages waiting on Uber rides, and they said it shows up relatively quick. Plus it's an easy out of the airport, missing all the E arrival cluster on the way out.

I've never heard the free for military personnel part, that's surprising to me

All lounges are stupid packed.

People bad with money get the "top tier" CC for any airline simply so they can get free checked bags the 2 times they fly a year along the the "extra points" for eating out.
Then these slobs take over the lounges with their sex trophies being loud and obnoxious while the airlines have no motivation to improve service because they have no competition.

There are times I'll actually skip the lounge and go to a bar to get work done because it's quieter.

This has likely been mentioned before, but if you're parking for CDE, use the second/"west" garage. Much better experience than dealing with the line and cluster**** iof the other garage.

While UA lounges can be bad, nothing compares to the AF lounge when all of the Air India passengers descend with Priority Pass memberships for mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, and four kids in tow.

It's not even a top tier card, you get two free passes on the United Explorer. They probably outnumber the United Club card members 25 to 1. It's actually a great card. One trip of free bags basically covers the annual fee and gets priority 2 boarding, and it has a lot of member benefits most basic reward cards lack.

But anyway, that's where the riffraff comes from IMO. Which I guess includes me, as this is the only way I get into the Club.

I used to park in the A/B garage, which was always quick and had plenty of open spaces. Can't even remember the last time I drove myself to IAH.

Is A/B still a complete fuster cluck or is it back to normal?
