Another night with no power in 77386. Honestly the most inexcusable part of this (at least to me) is the lack of communication.

I'm no expert and I admittedly have no idea how long it "should" take to get things back up and running. But it's not hard to communicate.

It's just been a really ****ty last 72 hours or so. Seems like it won't be until Sunday for my neighborhood.

Are you back on? I got power in 77386 about 45 mins ago.

I think this is the biggest gripe with Centerpoint. They SHOULD know EXACTLY when people will go online.

But they don't know. Making things up would probably make things worse.

And that is different from what Karen and Brenda are doing now? CP isn't going to do it anyway because they will lose zero customers whether they do or don't.

Y'all remember how on the ball they were with press conferences and info during Harvey? This thread would be completely different if that was happening right now.

Very appreciative of Scott's responsiveness. He's saving me today with this rain in the forecast. Thank you for posting this!

I'll be working with him on a new roof too!

Glad he is able to help out. Sorry to hear you will need a new roof, but at least he is getting you patched before the storms hit.

This is not a plant turnaround where everything is planned down to the gnat's ass.

CP's communication has sucked giant donkey balls, but this level of detail simply does not exist in a time like this and isn't reality.

I am not saying CP should make things up…..but they should have a plan in place to quickly asses and communicate expectations as to when their product/services will be provided to their paying clients.

Centerpoint seems to be incompetent in this regard. And rely on sympathy "It was a storm" to shield them from setting basic (not perfect) expectations from their paying clients.

It's a feature of the monopoly they have. They are incredibly incompetent from the top down but it doesn't matter because no one can go to a competitor, so they don't give a **** about improving or taking care of paying customers the way real businesses have to. Until that changes nothing will change.

Totally right. They had the same frame of mind during Ike. And that was 16 years ago. It is a business strategy to say "Ahhh shucks….there was a storm. Everyone is suffering."

Even heard their idiot public relations guy gently and compassionately claim "I don't have power….and I was the last one to get it" or some bs claim.

Bull***** A simple run through of every area covered by CP, what is impeding current efforts to get power back, etc, would go a massive way.
To what? It changes absolutely nothing they haven't already communicated. Total people out of power and how many each day they plan to re-energize.

News flash. They aren't saying much because it's all changing based on new information and priority every hour. Only a fool would do that to immediately have the public rub it in their face when it immediately becomes outdated and inaccurate information.
Give actual information like:

"Heights area. We have completed our assessment and have power up to an estimated xx%. The challenges we are facing with the remaining are X, Y, and Z, and we are currently addressing X & Y by doing <insert> and are estimating to have that completed by tomorrow. That will allow another xx% to come on board.

Moving to the Humble area, we are addressing the large number of trees that are needing to be removed before crews can assess what repairs need to be made. We have 4 crews working the area removing trees and anticipate having trees removed by Saturday morning..."

That type of communication will go a long way. More corporate HR approved bullchit that they've been feeding us? Yeah, that won't do anything.

Could pull an Austin and say nobody gets power back until everybody gets power back.

Recall that back during the '21 icepocalypse they raged and banned car washes in solidarity with people that still didn't have water back.

Under promise, over deliver.

If it is going to take until Monday or Tuesday to get parts for a neighborhood, tell them they won't have power until Wednesday and if it gets up earlier, they will be thrilled, but it gives them something to plan for.

Same thing happened in May. No estimate at all.

Is this company trustworthy? I had some shingles on the ground but can't tell if they came from my roof. I'm hesitant to call any random roofing company for an inspection out of fear they will go up there and try to fleece me for a new roof. I've heard stories about roofing contractors just lying or even causing damage themselves and then using that as an evidence you need a new roof.

It's tough to know who the trust.

But could be thinking of a different person posting their husband business card on here.

Yeah. We've had 2 CenterPoint trucks "assessing" the other side of the street over the past 2 days.

It's a pretty easy assessment. trees knocked the lines out in 2 sections. It's probably an easy fix since the poles are fine. Just need to restring the line. Not a single bucket has shown up.

I just don't understand their reasoning on some of this. It's like they are avoiding making easy fixes that have big payoffs to spend more time on more difficult stuff.

Ike happened nearly 20 years ago. They've had 20 years to harden and modernize their grid.

Being happy you beat Ike's restoration time is table stakes.

We've got two snapped poles with a tree laying across the lines in a muddy easement. That's about as difficult as it gets, and they haven't come close to even looking at it.
