I think I'm slowly getting power back. A single light in one of the bathrooms will come on and my microwave shows PF. Anything I should do to not snuff out this glimmer of hope?

Storm rolling into the Memorial villages right now. Good thing is I can't lose power I don't have.

In another note i had to take some medium voltage (2-12 kV) training for work. We spent an entire day coving the different types of cables that are used, the different splicing kits, and how to do splicing and terminations. One big thing was how free of debris they wanted everything because at these voltages in can cause a failure in thr insulation and you're down again.

Overall I probably had 2 full weeks of training on medium voltage cables and equipment plus more training on fault detection and diagnostics.

The fact these guys only need 2 hr of safety training before getting to work is a credit to them.
I worked at a manufacturer's testing lab during my co-op time in school. While the largest voltage we worked with was only 800V, we worked with massive amounts of amperage. It was quite often us schlubs were schlepping around 777MCM cable that was a good 100 feet long. We did all our own connecting, circuit build-out, testing, etc. for the tests.

Electricity is simply a wild beast that we've learned to contain, but man, if something goes wrong, it goes REALLY wrong.

Some info about the process after lines are repaired (we got word that ours our fixed, but still no power).

If the lines that you sent me pics of earlier are back up, but you still don't have power, could mean one of several things:

* You're not actually served from that line

* There's other damage down-line (or up-line) from there that still needs to be worked on before re energizing the lines

* Whichever contract line crew that put the lines back up still needs to get permission from CPE to close the line switches / breaker back in. *** this may sound stupid "needs to get permission" however it's typical safety protocol to not just close in on a section of line without checks & double-checks. And it's even more important on a large storm where there are multiple companies from all over working . If someone else from another company was working on another section of that line and you energized it on them while they were still working, you could seriously hurt / kill someone.

Best way I can think to compare it to is like a lockout / tag out safety procedure in a plant?

I REALLY don't like being around my MIL. It's not that she's a biatch or anything, she just annoys the ever living hell out of me with her anxiety and neuroticism.

Have an aunt that doesn't let you put anything anywhere without cleaning. I set a water bottle down on the counter and went back 5 minutes later and it had dish soap in it.

ABC13 just reported that some loon in Ft. Bend County shot at a CP worker with a pellet gun because they were angry. People are hitting their breaking point with CP ineptitude. They need to do a press conference ASAP that all local channels will carry to address some people's concerns and give updates on specific areas of the city. KTRH could air it as well over the radio. Have the local sports channels let people know to tune in and watch/listen.

People are emotionally unintelligent. See a large part of this board's reaction.

Doing a press conference does nothing. Ignorant people will still *****. They won't be happy with what is or isn't said either way because their reaction isn't about facts or reason.

Just had a chat with a nice local lineman walking our street and taking inventory of poles, transformers, feet of lined, etc needed to put in the work order for it.

He doesn't have power or a generator at home and is working 16 hour days. His wife is pissed she's stuck at home while he's working to get everyone else power. And of course it's been 50/50 for him if the people that interact with him are nice and understanding or ignorant jerks.

News flash. They aren't saying much because it's all changing based on new information and priority every hour. Only a fool would do that to immediately have the public rub it in their face when it immediately becomes outdated and inaccurate information.

People are stupid: Agree
Press conference won't help: Disagree. People are frustrated, and the lack of communication is probably the biggest reason why outside of not having power.

My biggest frustration is not knowing anything at all other than:

- We've had no power for ~84 hours
- My day revolves around making sure my generator has gas and is running
- I've seen two CP trucks in my neighborhood doing surveys and zero doing actual repair work
- There is a tree laying on power lines in a utility easement right outside of my neighborhood
- That repair is going to be extremely difficult on wet ground, and it's unclear if it's possible to isolate that section of line and repower everything else

I've been completely useless at work this week due to dealing with keeping my **** together at home, and that's unfortunate since it's one of my busiest times of the year. Not knowing if I have another two days or two weeks to worry about this before we can move on. I went into this knowing it could be a few days, but the lack of communication and visible progress is beyond frustrating.

Give actual information like:

"Heights area. We have completed our assessment and have power up to an estimated xx%. The challenges we are facing with the remaining are X, Y, and Z, and we are currently addressing X & Y by doing <insert> and are estimating to have that completed by tomorrow. That will allow another xx% to come on board.

Moving to the Humble area, we are addressing the large number of trees that are needing to be removed before crews can assess what repairs need to be made. We have 4 crews working the area removing trees and anticipate having trees removed by Saturday morning..."

That type of communication will go a long way. More corporate HR approved bullchit that they've been feeding us? Yeah, that won't do anything.

Disagree. I like to think of myself as not ignorant. The press conferences that Harris County, Whitmire, etc. does is broadcasted by many different news outlets on social media. On Monday and Tuesday with no power annd spotty service, I was okay with being spammed with official replays/highlights of the press conferences. Otherwise, it's some random person speculating something or Matt Lanza bloating some liberal talking point.

We literally had 36 hours with NOTHING.

Cool. But I don't believe that's possible. Unless things have changed, they aren't working in a specific block by block or neighborhood by neighborhood pattern. They are using the data from faults from their data and system to identify the largest runs / outages in the grid. They working down. It's not in an order 90% of people would understand. And then it's changing every hour as new survey and outage data is entered.

I'm sure any excess resources are being dispatched to survey new areas more like what you are saying, but the majority are focusing on a an ever changing priority spit out through their work order system.

I think this is it. Communication.

Hanging on the precipice that energy COULD return at anytime is very frustrating. Just provide the information so people can plan accordingly.

I think this is the biggest gripe with Centerpoint. They SHOULD know EXACTLY when people will go online. Communicate that. Even if it is 2 weeks from now. Most understand hurricanes will cause disruption but there has to be a PLAN in place to quickly assess and COMMUNICATE when their services will be provided to their paying clients.
