Agreed. The Oilers were HUGE.
I don't know if the Texans can ever recreate that, given Houston's demographics today. Hell, I never watch the Texans and I've lived here my whole life.
During the Oilers' playoff runs in '78 and '79, the grocery store I worked at would rig up a transistor radio to one of the store intercom mics at an unused cash register. We'd use a rubber band to keep the "talk" button depressed so the play-by-play could be heard throughout the store.
But it was mostly for the workers ... the shoppers were all at home watching on TV.
