Loved listening to Ed Fowler on the radio. I didn't agree with his opinions many times but enjoyed the show.
He was a seriously crusty dude. Believe it or not he left sports to become and Anglican priest. Semi-retired but works at St. Paul's in Clear Lake from time to time.
I loved reading his column, even when I disagreed with him.

He coined the term "Little Silly" to refer to Jerry Glanville, whom he really seemed to despise (not without reason).
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. It's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of miseries." - Winston Churchill

Was it Little Silly or Little Bobo?

He started and operated a cookie business in Edmonton while winning Grey Cups and kept it going while transitioning into a franchise quarterback for the Houston Oilers. The deliciousness was called: W. Moon's Chocolate Chippery.

"I've always had an entrepreneurial background as far as wanting to have my own business. Chocolate chip cookies were huge in the United States, Famous Amos and Mrs. Fields, but I didn't see anything like that up in Canada,"

"I had a great cookie recipe because my mother taught me to bake when I was in high school, and I used that recipe to start my own cooking business. I had five stores around the Edmonton area, I had one in the West Edmonton mall, in the huge mega mall there."

"When I went to the Houston Oilers, I had five stores in Houston as well. I finally gave it up because it was just becoming too busy for me to try and be an NFL quarterback and run a business at the same time, so I ended up selling it to Mrs. Fields," Moon said.

Warren Moon's chocolate chip cookie recipe
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Quaker Oats
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cup of baker's sugar
  • cup of dark brown sugar
  • 2 sticks of butter (softened)
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 oz)
DIRECTIONS
[ol]
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • In one small bowl, combine the flour, oats, baking soda and salt
  • In a larger bowl, mix the vanilla, butter and sugars until fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition (do not overmix).
  • Gradually beat in flour mixture into the larger bowl. Once mixed, stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons onto an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown.
  • [/ol]

This thread reminded me that somewhere along the line my folks inherited a game worn jersey (Lee Williams) and gave it to me. Pretty cool relic.

Is that the Wendy's hamburger chick at the :30 second mark? Either that or Pipi Longstockings snuck into the Dome.

I love seeing old clips when receivers used to put their hand on the ground.

I'm surprised Kenny didn't trip on any one of the thousand uneven seams in the carpet of the Dome. Or on the pitcher's mound hump.

That jumped out at me, too. That was back when flankers were a thing.

I also like seeing barehanded skill position players. Was the last one Wayne Chrebet?

*****Bud Adams. The Texans need a powder blue uniform reminiscent of the Oilers and wear them once a year for a nationally televised home game - selling t-shirts the week before with proceeds going to Houston charities. If anyone has any connections with the city please make it happen - I'll buy the first shirts.

If the Houston Cougars can do it - so shall the Texans...

The Texans are bringing the blue back, presumably next year because the process with the NFL will have been completed. I believe Cal confirmed this recently as well in one of his AMAs.

While I would love this, I find it hard to believe as the Adams family would not allow it. This is the family who will wear the Oilers uniform to play the Texans this year in Nashville. I can't see them making the leap to let Houston have the colors back.

    What am I missing?

The most difficult part of that is likely the Texans getting a national TV game.

I can see some super secret plan that is actually brilliant and will accomplish the goal perfectly, but dumbass Cal hits 'reply all' instead of 'reply' and it blows up in their face.

We are not bringing the Oiler's uniforms back. We are bringing Houston blue back. Not Oilers blue, not blue owned by the Tennessee franchise. I'm not going to say more than that on a public message board.

Shame. I wasn't an Oiler fan growing up but looking back, those are some of the best uniforms in NFL history.

translation, it's going to be only different enough for Texans not to be sued, but close enough to be very similar to Luv ya Blue.

With Nashville hanging on to them, this is the best case I think at the moment, and I think credit is due for the organization going as far as the situation allows to at least get that shade of blue back in the mix.

You never know where you're going to find Oilers memorabilia. In this case, a restroom in Casa Dominguez restaurant/bar in Bellaire. I need a tetanus shot now but it was a nice surprise.
