I remember Oilers and Astros games, but the real memory that stands out of the Dome was going to all of the '78 Stratford playoff games with Craig James. They kept winning coin flips and got to play all of their games, including the championship game vs. Plano, at the Dome.
I lived in Houston during the Luv Ya Blue era, but my entire family was from Central and West Texas, so I grew up a Cowboy fan. They played the fight song during the playoff runs after the Pledge at my elementary school. Drove me crazy. The Renfro catch was debated for years.
Bud must not have paid much, because the starting fullback Rob Carpenter moonlighted as a PE teacher at my school. So we got a lot of visitors during assemblies, like Pastorini and White Shoes.
Holy crap. I would have bugged the snot out of Carpenter asking him about the playoff game against San Diego when he started because Earl was hurt.
My favorite Dome memories are high school playoff games. My dad and I never had more fun than on those Saturdays. Got to see some pretty stellar games there, the best probably being Lewisville v. Aldine MacArthur for the state title in 1993.

You can find lots of pictures of people smoking in locker rooms or even on sidelines if you look around. There was an old fashioned word back then for guys like that: "men."

I remember Adams *****ing about not getting any support and the games being blacked out locally. I can't remember if that was before or after managed to get more seats installed in the Dome and made sellouts even harder.
Adams was always a loathsome turd that got lucky buying into the old AFL, getting subsumed into the NFL that then took off in popularity. Those old locker rooms would make a semi-modern high school field house look luxurious.
