Videos are now coming out of HPD filming the crowd and the performers with their cell phones from the side of the stage during some of the worst of the crush, showing that even they were unaware of what was going on
It took you three edits to white-knight/virtue signal all of that? Do you feel better?Keeper of The Spirits said:
I don't get this beef you have with the dad, this guy made a a decision that will haunt the guy for the rest of his life and you want to pile on, on an Internet forum.
You know exactly three 3 things about this dad 1. He took his kid to a concert you don't approve of for children (an artist who markets to kids) 2. He hired an attorney who is prominent in his community 3. What he looks like (I am sure that has nothing to do with your analysis though)
I pray you never make a mistake as a parent. I pray none of us ever make a mistake that costs any of our children their lives.
Want to get to know this dad a little more check out his Instagram, you won't agree with everything on it but it clearly shows an active single dad

What you will see is he likes to go out, several videos of him and his son dancing to Travis Scott, appears to be a Christian, likes Candace Owens (I imagine you have that in common), likes shoes, loves his kids, also like monster trucks in addition to Travis Scott, was trying to better himself during Covid and expressed the opinion that it was time to open the economy back up post Covid.
The dramatic decline in the real Astroworld was a foreshadowing of the decline in society in general.Stat Monitor Repairman said:
Got 4-million people in the houston area now. Can you imagine what Astroworld would be like today?

I think for some folks (myself included), it's just difficult to understand the thinking behind that decision. It just seems the antithesis of what a parent should do.Keeper of The Spirits said:

In the summer if '98 I went with some friends from A&M and remember being shocked at the decline. That was my last visit. No desire for any more Texas Cyclone after that.
Again the DAD went there for himself yeah like some 9 year old is begging to see Travis Scott what an odd defense.Keeper of The Spirits said:
Just to be clear, 3 edits before your post I didn't change anything after other posts were made
My post is simply to understand the reasoning behind your axe to grind with this guy. It sounds like you have your reasons and that's fine. I appreciate we are different and you have the right to your opinion
My family lost a child to tragic circumstances so I understand the hard road this man has ahead of him without nameless faceless people questioning him behind a keyboard.
He will undoubtedly relive this regularly throughout his life. Over the rest of his life, he will likely from time to time punch his kids name or the incident into Google and mostly he will find tributes to his kid. Then one day he may stumble across this thread and I am sure he will appreciate your words and wise parenting advice. It will bring all the pain and guilt right back, whether he deserves to bear that guilt and pain or not.
I don't need to defend the guy anymore, I said my piece and am comfortable with my position.
The major themes in a lot of his music are hard drug use. McDonalds promoting a guy who pushes sex and drugs and deviancy to children and young teenagers. Our society is kind of f'd up TBH.Jack Cheese said:
I'm a complete outsider, an old who'd never heard of Travis Scott before this incident. My kids are college age and know of him but aren't fans.
Based on what I've seen in this thread It does disturb me that he markets himself to children. Choosing "luciferian themes'... Whatever... That's been a staple of rock bands for a long time. But combine that with all the f-bombs and sexual themes as well? McDonald's chooses to cross market and endorse this stuff, on happy meals no less? That's screwed up, man. Being "family friendly" needs to mean something. If nothing else, it means there is a realm of content and behavior suitable for adults, and a realm suitable for children. Yes, that line does move some over time but if Travis Scott is now in the realm of "suitable for kids" then that line has lurched too far, too fast.
We had season passes in the early to mid 90's. It used to be awesome to be dropped off with your siblings/friends and be able to spend the entire day between Waterworld and Astroworld. But it declined rapidly. It became the world's cheapest daycare and in my last few visits to Astroworld, I had one incident where me and my cousin were almost jumped by mexican gang bangers, and then I seriously had a 12-13 year old kid try to sell me "sherm" in the line to Texas Cyclone (I believe that was during Fright Night). Had no clue what "sherm" was until an older friend explained it to me later.EclipseAg said:The dramatic decline in the real Astroworld was a foreshadowing of the decline in society in general.Stat Monitor Repairman said:

As ownership changed and the culture around it changed, the park rapidly went from a well-run venue where parents felt comfortable dropping their kids off for the day to a dirty, run-down, poorly managed hoodlum hangout.
Unless you have the ability to keep prices sky high and avoid gimmicks like cheap season passes, those types of entertainment venues just can't survive the masses.
People complained to high heaven when Landry's set prices for the Galveston Pleasure Pier so high. Of course the prices were set high ... it was the only way to prevent it from becoming another Astroworld.

TIL Travis Scott's real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II.
ZFG if he's from the streets, Beastie Boys were rich kids or Parker McCollum is all hat no cattle. All have good music.

damn. that's about 20 years after i came to that realization.
This is pretty common with people in the back of a crowd crush. People are just normally close together, nothings crazy, nothing seems wrong. Its not until you're up at the front do you feel the squeeze and flow of people.Texaggie7nine said:Was in uber to concert on Tuesday talking about the Astroworld deaths and the driver said he was there and where he was at he never saw any of the people in distress. Said he has a 10 year old son that is a huge Travis Scott fan and cried that he couldn't go but the driver said he didn't feel like he would enjoy the concert having to always worry about his son being ok.Ag_07 said:
I would probably put money on the dad wanting to go and decided to take his 9 yo along with him.
I can't imagine a 9 yo would want and ask to go to a concert. Not typically something a 9 yo wants to do on his own.
Incredibly sad either way
Also at the Chvrches concert we were at, a couple in front of us had their 2 daughters, around 4 and 6 who were saying it was their favorite band and they sung along and danced to every song.
There was a near riot at this little warehouse in ghetto Bryan back around 99-00 when SPM and Yungstar never came out to perform. It was blamed on fire marshall and people started throwing beer bottles and raging. We got our white asses the F out of there.HtownAg92 said:
There was no crowd surge at either the New Order or Erasure shows I saw at Southern Star back in the day.
There was, however, an offer to trade the 7-foot Gumby I won for X. I declined and 7 foot Gumby rode sticking out of the sun roof of the 82 Maxima all the way back to College Station.
There was a near riot at the Hooters / Bangles concert, but that was at Six Flags.
