Marathon recently broke ground on their new building over in city center. Sure they will take advantage of bars there, like yard house. But Kirby's will offer a nice option.
Marathon already announced a deal for employees with Lifetime CityCentre. Think they can line up deals with The Tasting Room and Yardhouse???
I was in the room here one day... watchin' the Mexican channel on TV. I don't know nothin' about Pele. I'm watchin' what this guy can do with a ball and his feet. Next thing I know, he jumps in the air and flips into a somersault and kicks the ball in - upside down and backwards... the dang (sc) goalie never knew what the hell hit him. Pele gets excited and he rips off his jersey and starts running around the stadium waving it around his head. Everybody's screaming in Spanish. I'

So for parents that want it to allow kids - Would Saturday and Sunday from noon to five be enough?

Would the lack of kitchen with no kid friendly food truck menu change the appeal any?

This KIH will be interesting because it is in an area with a lot of families but there's also no competing bars that are similar for people that don't like kids to go to.

Damn... got to love it. I'll have to go check out their career page ha

Any details on how big that building is going to be? Also is it going to be solely Marathon?

I just noticed this morning that there is construction fence around multiple buildings on the southwest corner of the Blalock and Long Point intersection. I didn't notice any other signs as it took me a second to process the fence being there. I just did a quick google search and couldn't find anything, so does anyone know what may be going on there?

15 floors and I believe it is Marathon only. 8 floor parking garage.

Very nice.

No engineering jobs on their website. A shame. Would have loved a 1.5 mile commute to work

Well hell, that sucks. I didn't have super high expectations, but the bar was higher than a c-store.

Those two new Buckys are really raising the bar in the Dirty Branch for CStores. It's a process, people. It's not going to turn into West U overnight.

Agree on the Bucky's, but the new Roadstar? (Shell) convenience store on Gessner across from AutoZone is nothing exciting.

The inside might not be exciting but I'm loving their diesel prices and convenience of getting in and out of there compared to the Valero down the street.

I might try one of their breakfast tacos one day if I don't have time to run down to Tornado Taco.

Other than that though I agree it's just clean and nothing more.

I agree with you for most bars. However with KIH, it has a pretty open outdoor area, which would make it more inviting to families with kids and allow families to move around away from smokers or other people they don't want to be around.

Maybe I'm being selfish because I'm really looking forward to this place opening and I want to be able to take my 4 month old with my wife and meet other friends with young ones to catch up over a few beers. If I'm turned away because of my son, we'll head over to Lazy Oaks or The Powder Keg, neither of which are as nice as KIH, but will get the job done.

I'm not saying they need to build a playground or anything, but I don't see the harm in them allowing kids until the evening and then flipping it over to adults only at night.

I'm with you, some of my favorite bars are kid-friendly and I think it would be dumb to make KIH non-kid-friendly in Spring Branch. My rant was mostly directed at some of the parents who tend to forget that they are taking their children TO A BAR. Everyone should know that if they take little Keighden or Brynnlynn to ANY bar, there is a chance they are going to hear a curse word or two in passing and maybe even catch a wiff of burning tobacco.

Anyways, I'm making a big deal out of nothing. Vast majority of parents don't care....I've just had a few mini-encounters over it throughout the years and it's rubbed me the wrong way.

Are there even enough childless young professionals to keep a big upscale bar going at night in Spring Branch? Serious question. Are enough 23-30 year olds thinking "hey guys, I'm sick of midtown, downtown and Eado, we should go out in Spring Branch tonight"?? Seems to be a demographic that is lacking in that family dense area.

If they're smart, they'll be kid friendly and just shut it down at midnight.

Slam dunk, but bad idea if no kids?

Idk why you would exclude people from your close proximity.
Because a lot of us don't want to go to a bar to drink and be bothered by Breighden and Aydyen running around unsupervised.
I've been bothered by screaming kids in airplanes and small restaurants, but never at a large outdoor bar. I've been bothered by other peoples' dogs, and liberals, though, but still cool with dogs at most bars.

With Murphy and that entire cluster of office buildings plus now Marathon and City Centre that KIH will be a big happy hour spot.

I imagine it'll be young professionals during the week and families on the weekday.

I'm a Gessner driver (Bunker hill is a Far East as I Go). Anyone been to Seoulside wings? Food truck looks clean while passing by on Gessner. Just never had the urge to stop. The new Andrew Liquor is pretty nice. I find the prices competitive and if you have anything you want the that he doesn't carry he can put it int he next order. I swore to never cross BW8 but finally tried powder Keg. it's pretty good. Ps, the park people are bad... they did re-roof my house but it took two weeks.

So you live your life in the 2 mile sliver between the beltway and Bunker Hill? You're totally missing out on Costco.

How is Texas T Tavern over off Brittmoore (formerly Brittmoore Icehouse)? Is it still mostly bikers and WT locals or has it been ruined? Drove by the other night for the first time in years and didn't realize it had been rebranded.

All I know is if you Spring Branch pendejos screw up and price out my go-to lunch spot, Tacos Del Julio, out of the hood I will gut you like a fish. Hell, they recently started updating their strip center and they're probably gonna have to jack up their prices to pay for rent.

There is an Aldi and a Mister car wash going in there. Aldi will back up to Westray and face South. Mister Carwash will be on the far end of the lot from Aldi.

That Sr Car Wash is always packed, so I can see them building another one. Every time I tried to go there I turned around cause I didn't have an hour to wait.

This will be Gessner @ Westray (next street north of Hammerly)

Bad picture that was posted on my neighborhood FB page. North to the right. The ALDI/parking lot will basically take up the space from The Pavilion's existing parking lot. Mr Car wash will take up the space from where the building used to be. Mr Car wash is the "commercial development" marked on the left of the picture.

The drawing already does resemble a CF. But I hear Aldi's are good for property value and its hell of a lot better than another pawn shop or "boutique" store

I live off Westray and a lot of our neighbors aren't too happy. While I would have preferred some restaurants (not mexican or korean) or a nice coffee shop, I'm glad that there's not going to be another tire shop or some no credit car stealership put in there.
