hows that new shopping center? havent been by lately.
Third location just opened up on LoPo. 8147 B Long Point Rd. It is behind the strip center that is being redeveloped by Braun.drumboy said:Isn't that in Oak Forest?H-town ag said:
Went to Slowpokes this weekend. Great coffee and menu - panino sandwiches, salads, and great flatbread pizzas.
The front awnings have been torn out and placed with temporary signs. They still have a long ways to go. One article mentioned by the end of 2020. Another article said that Feges BBQ would be there in 2021.Charlie Murphy said:

Do we know if Kirby Ice House will be "kid friendly"? I know the other location is 23 & up, I wouldn't bring my kids to that one but hope this one is different...
I get that if you're just selling booze but kid-friendly places in the Heights clean up if they have stuff to entertain the kids and sell expensive food. Cedar Creek has long been a place to let your kids play with snakes in the ditch, Wakefield Crowbar just put in a playset to keep up with Petrol's wooden train and jungle dome of death and Preslee's seems to be doing very well with their assortment of toddler/hammock swings. Live Oak Grill on Hempstead is basically Spring Branch and they have a great playground (and happy hour).Chewy said:RustyBV said:

I hadn't thought of that but it'll be interesting. I bet it won't be kid friendly.
I was at KIH on a Saturday around noon one time and some guy was trying to come in with his kid in a stroller after the farmers market next door.
Guy at the door told the dad with the kid it was 23 and up. Dad said it was an infant in a stroller. Door guy said everyone has to be 23 and up to enter. The dad turned around the stroller in a huff.
I bet KIH knows they make money selling alcohol and not families taking up space feeling like they're living their best life.
Not a knock on families but it's a fine line when you're in the bar business of managing the clientele and what you want your place to be.

The best is when you light up a lung dart on the patio of a "kid-friendly" bar and you get glares from mom or dad. Years ago, had a lady lecture us after one of my buddies said the word "sh*t" in normal conversation in the outdoor area of Onion Creek. Nothing crazy and it wasn't yelled out or anything. Had to remind her that she was bringing her kids into A BAR.Body By Fisher said:
Seems like all the kid-friendliness would open up a niche for places geared towards adults and singles. We used to call them "bars."
Yep. No kids would be a very stupid move in this area imo.Boats and Hose said:
I'd be surprised to see them limit it to no kids. I could be wrong, but it would make more sense to have a cut off time where no children would be allowed after a certain hour. The memorial/spring branch area is definitely more family oriented than the current location. I think they would attract more customers by allowing families to take their kids their for an afternoon to watch a game, hang out, etc., but that's just my opinion.
I believe so.Chewy said:
Does the Little Woodrow's in Katy have an age restriction?
AFAIK, no Lil Woodrows allow minors. The one on White Oak sure doesn't.Chewy said:
KIH is Little Woodrow's group I believe.

Yep, AFAIK. Onion Creek was just as much a coffee shop (no extensive menu) as a bar and I remember going by there at 7:15AM to pick up my card and some coffee several times when I forgot to close my tab the night before.BMX Bandit said:
Don't all these "kid friendly" Places have extensive food menus? Sone are more restaurant and bar.

I really think that KIH is going to be a slam dunk for them. It would be a bad idea to not allow kids in this area. I assume they'll be smart enough to understand the types of people in this area

Slam dunk, but bad idea if no kids?
You could probably do 11-5 but I agree about keeping it to weekends only. I think the original plans were to have a Torchy's and a Mia's built on that lot too (not sure if this is still the case). If that still holds true, it provides a nearby solution for a place to eat within walking distance.Chewy said:
So for parents that want it to allow kids - Would Saturday and Sunday from noon to five be enough?
Would the lack of kitchen with no kid friendly food truck menu change the appeal any?
This KIH will be interesting because it is in an area with a lot of families but there's also no competing bars that are similar for people that don't like kids to go to.

It's one of those guys along with the Morgan Group. I'm feel like the LW guy is more of a consultant to the bar but I could be wrong.
Because a lot of us don't want to go to a bar to drink and be bothered by Breighden and Aydyen running around unsupervised.Charlie Murphy said:BMX Bandit said:Charlie Murphy said:

Idk why you would exclude people from your close proximity.
