CDub, do you live there? We are moving to Houston and I'm trying to figure out neighborhoods close-in that still have great options for school/daycare for a 2-1/2 year old and family-friendly restaurants where we can also get a beer.

Oak Forest for Oak Forest elementary.
Garden Oaks elementary is Montessori .
Shepherd Park Plaza is great, but elementary isn't as good.
Candlelight Plaza is the same as SPP, but without sidewalks.
Lazy Brook or Timbergrove on the other side of 610 for same houses as Candlelight Plaza, but with an inside the loop premium.

I was born and raised in Oak Forest before my parents moved to Shepherd Park Plaza when I was in highschool. We bought a house after college in Oak Forest, but moved to Shepherd Park Plaza last year.

Diggity is a good resource as well for a realtor perspective.

We have a young man that lives with either his parents or grandparents in our neighborhood...he has some mental issues and is seen walking around the hood ...looking kind of like a homeless person and mumbling to himself. Harmless guy. At least once every couple of months someone posts his picture in our Nextdoor alerts section and says something like "watch out for this dangerous looking individual...". Come on people, do a little search on Nextdoor and you will find that he lives around us and is harmless.

I saw them charging for parking yesterday. I thought it was the Tejano bar still when I drove by. I thought tat will not end well. Charging for parking in the heights is not a good look.

Wait, so La Pachanga is now a sports bar? And a sports bar is charging for parking? That place will last a month, who wants to deal with that in the heights?
