When should we expect more concrete forecasts for Friday -Monday? Trying to filter through some of these early sensationalized predictions I'm seeing.

The NAM model comes into high resolution tomorrow. We should wake up to a much crisper forecast tomorrow morning.

Insane QPF on GFS still. Just nuts.

If you're in a county bordering the four county DFW area, you're getting a foot of snow ball ammo on Saturday. Lock it and send the ice south, Mother Nature.

Thursday, or just read the guy posting about 8 inches of snow in DFW if you want

We are in no mans land on the models. Tomorrow night is when things will get crisp.

Ha that's what I'm rooting for to be right. Cuz the alternative (freezing rain and sleet) would suck

Give me rain or give me snow. Ice is death.

Monitoring Storm2k to watch them meltdown over every model iteration though. That place is like F16 during a protest / riot (verbiage depending on your perspective).

There is one regular poster there who lives and dies by every freakin model run.

This. At least give the kids something fun if we're going to be stuck inside for 4 days.

Where are you seeing that? Leaving town and coming back Sunday afternoon so trying to plan accordingly.

Some of the model runs are shifting the freeze line north a bit, and it is showing red for much of north Texas. This would be mixed precip (definitely not snow). If temps were say 30 degrees, it would reduce the amount of ice accretion on elevated surfaces (trees, power lines, etc). It could be a really nice scenario that just means driving on Sat / Sun is a bit hazardous.

Also, saw a mid-30s temp for Sunday on one of my apps which is completely model driven. I didn't dig around enough to see what is driving that.

1+1 = 3

that one is pretty simple... assuming they are not the same biological gender of course.

Did a final Grocery store run today. Just got enough for a couple of days but it was fun seeing those carts overflowing. The shelves and freezers were pretty full surprisingly.

Funny…I ran into this same TWC map a few days ago and thought the same. I'm no weather nerd, but that just seemed to scream for attention and clicks to please their advertisers.

Easy for you to say I tried that: 1+1…. And we got 4!

Man I'm so tired… even after 5 years

Came here to post Dan's FB post, but you beat me to it. It will be interesting to see what the models show tomorrow, but I tend to agree with Dan.

I'm guessing it will be more sleet/ice than snow, which is worse.

Yeah, I'm more panicked about a nasty ice and sleet event than getting 18" of snow dumped on us

You mean to tell me that weather people are exaggerating for effect and attention?!?!

Well, I never!!

The ice itself doesn't even concern me - most of us can handle things from home. It's local power outages with unknown timetables that make me anxious. 2 dogs, a cat and an 8 month old makes for a stressful "will it or won't it stay on?" situation.

I love my kids to death, but if I didn't have to drive to a basketball game at 4 on Saturday + miss the AFC/NFC games because of a dance recital.. I wouldn't hate it. Curious to see how much of our weekend plans get canceled.

The ice is what causes those local power outages though. 2021 was a unique cluster, but fallen trees can absolutely take you out for a few days if there is widespread heavy icing.

Seems to me that 2021 really made everyone overly nervous about the power outage possibilities. Before that I understood that ice could and did bring down trees and power lines, but I don't remember it ever actually happening to me or anyone I knew. So there was so much less fear associated with these storms/events.

I don't particularly trust our political leaders or the leaders of our power grid, but I do think they learned a little from the massive **** up that made 2021 so bad. Hopefully that will never happen agaiin and if all those specific dominoes don't line up again, none of these events should be that big of a deal if you can just stay off the roads.

2021 was a power grid issue, that doesn't really concern me. But locally we lose power a few times a year due to downed trees/lines. It's typically back up in a few hours. 99.9% of the time it's barely even a mild inconvenience.

But if the roads are iced that is going to mean restoration takes longer. If the ETA's are updated that's not a huge concern (ie. "we know your power is out, but we'll have it back in 3 hours"). But when there is no ETA, you've got an 8 month old and some animals then "just stay off the roads" isn't an option any longer -- that's what ramps the anxiety up to 11.

Winter weather watch has been extended through Sunday. Models are hinting at a Sunday wintry precip event.

Just got a text/email from our kids school district saying they are canceling after school activities on Friday and this weekend.

School on Friday is scheduled normally, as it should be.

Counting on my proximity to a major hospital (we literally back up to it) to keep our power on or on the high priority to restore.

We did not lose power at all on the first Wintergeddon.

Fingers crossed.

I am on the same circuit as a NTMWD pump station, so I never lost power in 2021 either.

Doesn't matter if a tree or a limb falls on power lines. Hospitals have generators and have enough fuel to run for days.

troublefreepool.com is a great resource for pool owners. This thread has some good info on Texans prepping for the coming cold. Figured it might be useful for some and also serve to not clutter this thread with pool talk.
