This year is our first as empty nesters, and I gotta say, it's been weird to see these closures with no personal impact.

I live by Aldridge Elementary in Richardson and drove by the literal school a few a hours ago and everything is fine. I'm gonna be livid if they cancel school again lol I
Had some appointments up in prosper this afternoon. Was surprisingly slushy and unmelted compared to north Dallas. LOTS of melt and lots of piles. Neighborhood streets did not even have ruts.
Wasn't at all a concern in 4wd. But depending on how much freezes vs evaporated overnight I could see possible problem maybe in the morning. I can understand the cancellation from both a safety and funding number standpoint, I guess.
Easy for me though, we are empty nesters too.

Once districts close around them, others have no choice unfortunately. If there is a wreck and other districts are closed then that's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

We live in Ponder and they are closed tomorrow and Friday. Guess they just said screw it since they dont have Friday classes and were just going to use Friday as a makeup day.
My wife and kids go to Northwest ISD schools. NISD is closed tomorrow. No way they will be closed Friday, especially since FWISD will be open tomorrow.

They all talk, some need to due to shared resources, but they are all aligned when deciding.
You guys have it so easy. Back in the day of our kids you had to wait til the morning of for a phone call. Or in our childhood wait for the news scroll.

None of those things have anything to do with the other. School districts are mostly immune. Besides, other districts ARE open. "I had to get to school" is neither a means of liability nor a defense in an accident or case of negligence.
District closings are about money and little more.

Interesting. Wonder if each's typical policy is to follow DISD, but they finally decided enough is enough.

What's going to suck for teachers is those that live in districts that are closed and have kids home but work in open districts. My wife's boss is like that (home district closed; work district open). THAT may force a reevaluation over the late evening/early morning hours for the districts that said they're open.
Good point. It takes my wife 25-30 minutes to get to her school on a normal day. Our kids go with her, as we felt NISD would provide a better education than Ponder.

I understand that all of the big North Dallas private schools follow each other. I don't think they necessarily follow DISD bc they don't typically have to worry abt things like buses. Also, I think it's a lot easier to make sure 1 campus is defrosted enough to be safe rather than dozens or hundreds.
Cleburne all the way down here delaying… I drove the roads less traveled south of the lake on the way home from work. Yes there are 10-15 foot stretches over culverts that still have ice but everything else is bone dry. This is asinine. I get needing a certain percentage for funding purposes, but there's not a road "in town" that's unmanageable for a Prius. The side road south of my house has had maybe 10 cars on it since Saturday and it's at worst slushy, no hard ice left.
We live next to an elementary in McKinney. Our neighborhood is still pretty much iced in. Still have 3 inches of ice pack in the shade of some places (like my wife's side of the driveway)

My husband loves all these school closings. Makes his commute on 635 so much easier!

My wife took my son up to the high school to let him practice driving in these conditions and they said it was awful.
