My electric was 425 this past month.

100 dollars lower than my water bill.

Paying 16.

Current bill 4800 Kw (rounded).

I should have said current and historical usage to show the increase.

If you haven't gone thru a contract change lately then good luck to you when it's time. EO isn't much of a help anymore, the best they got me was 18 which was more than double my previous. I shopped around and after dropping 2 new contacts after a month I found 12.8 thru Evergreen. My EO contract ended in May which was the worst possible time to end. My June bill in a 3k sq 1 story with 1 unit and built in 2019 was $360 and the lowest we go is 73 at night.

CoServe is bending people over currently.

I'm glad we live in a de-regulated zip code to let the free market do it's thing.

Yes, I'm in Northlake and we're getting screwed, and there's no competition either. $578 last month and 3400 SF and keep house at 77 during day and 71 at night. Sucks.

EDIT: I was wrong. I'm paying $0.1209/something and not getting screwed. This is just the summer from hell.

https://support.coserv.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009093154-Residential-Rate

Electric rate went down from June to July and my bill has been the same as I would expect. $170 or so for a 2200sqft 2 story house. Not very different from last year and the year before.

And I keep it at 75 during the day and 68-69 at night.

You are correct. I was wrong with my post. It's just really hot and pricing is higher than I want it to be, but Coserv did not raise their rates this month thankfully!

I miss the hell out of CoServe after having to shop for electricity for the first time ever this summer.

Believe I saw July was 2nd hottest on record behind 1980 obviously. This is stupid. So tired of it.

Moved into our new build in January. Crazy amount of picture windows and 29 foot ceiling, 11 foot rest of house….but really efficient windows and Trane HVAC. Spray foam insulation…like a Yeti. 4,400 SF. Keep at constant 73 and have to pump our well for house, 12 zone sprinkler and barn and pasture troughs. Coop electric bill for July was $385. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Are you sure?

These are taken from my Coserv bills, factoring in Coserv's fees + KwH usage. Definitely increased in July, and since January.

Well ***** I was charged $551.78 (electric) for 3,687 kWh which is $0.14.965. It did go up.

It doesn't look like Coserv's base rate changed, but you probably got hit by the power cost recovery factor. Can you break that out of your bill?
bco2003
How long do you want to ignore this user?

No, I've broken out as much as I can from what the bill itemizes.

I had the unfortunate luck of my contract running out July 15th. I had locked in 3 years at something ridiculously low like 8 cents or something like that. I went on Power to Choose and couldn't find anything under 14 cents as a fixed rate. I get weekly emails with my charges and the last two weeks have been $198 and $196. It says we are on pace for $800 this month. Ridiculous. 3,200 sf house, we keep it at 74 during the day and 72 at night. Seems like this is more than it should be.

Yes that was my June. I spent multiple days on power to choose as well and couldn't find anything. I haven't received my first bill with 12.8 yet. You should take the time to email Evergreen. I had never heard of it but it is a service similar to EO. A person in my neighborhood recommended them and they signed me up with this new plan. It is a long contract but there is no cancellation fee and the rep even told me they are happy to cancel me to another one if rates lower.

Think this is your problem. Have a 2,800 sq. ft. new build and keep it around 77-78 in the day and never below 75 at night. I'd imagine my bills would be high keeping it that cool in the house.

We're outside quite a bit - it's gotten where high 90s doesn't really feel all that hot anymore right now, so no need to keep the house that cold.

We do 77 during day and then 70 at night. That goes from 10pm to 7am.

As I said earlier our bill was 425. 4k total sq ft with 3 AC units.

Do you have a dehumidifier built into your system? If not, yeesh. I couldn't sleep with it 75+

Just what you're used to. I've slept at scout summer camps outside all week with lows at night in the mid 80s without a problem. Would be great to be cooler but not worth the higher bills.

We leave it at 77 during the day & night. Relative humidity is usually between 50-55%.

Used to keep it at 75-76, but decided to save a little, and we've gotten used to it.

Lots of interesting perspectives in this thread. I've done the same thing, including very recently with my kids, but that doesn't mean I want to live like that in my house.

I've kept mine on 75 during the day and 72 at night and July was about $400 (recently renewed at $0.127/kWh). I did have one weekend I was out of town, and I put it on 80 while we were gone. My daily usage reports show it was just over half the usage of a "normal" day at the same temps, but I'm okay with that! I choose to pay more to be comfortable.

For people complaining, that's the tradeoff. Be willing to pay more during the hottest months, or cut usage - that's really the only option. You can spend a lot on new windows or insulation, but you won't get those dollars back for decades, if at all.

Edit to add for comparisons: I'm cooling a 2700 sq ft house with two stories, vaulted ceilings, old, inefficient windows, and a poorly insulated attic.

I just got my electric bill from Grayson-Collin Electric Co-op which was $287 for 2600 sq. ft. one story with the thermostat kept on 78 day and night. I can't imagine what my daughter's bill will be for 7700 sq. ft. with the thermostat on 71 all the time. Ouch!

If you can swing a 7,700 sqft house, you don't really care what your electric bill is, nor how much it costs to keep any of the Trucks/SUVs in the 4-car garage topped off with premium.

Yikes, I'd be doing the same thing with a new lawn.

I've been doing 2x a week and running each zone twice in the mornings those days. Also let it grow a little longer, not like anyone other than the yard guys are walking on it these days.
Same here. My grass looks great, except for a few small areas that get the most sun.

Sure she can afford it, but nobody likes high utility bills. I think she will be shocked, but will probably never admit it.

I'm at the point in this season of Hell of trying to determine how some plants are absolutely frying and then the same plant literally next to it getting the same sun and water is perfectly fine.

I'm terribly vexed.

I feel your pain.

We literally have a spot in one of our front yard flower beds that has killed multiple plants the last couple years. The same plant next to it is growing like a weed. Even our landscape guy is baffled by it.

Any recs for ac maintenance? We haven't had it serviced in at least 5 years and are suspicious it's having trouble keeping up with the highs like it used to. We're out in Keller if that makes a difference.
