Another one that slipped under the radar--Whiskey Charlie's #2 near Southwest Parkway is gone. Perusing their Facebook page makes no mention of the closure.
Emailed Sprouts about the rumored pull-out of the Linens N Things location.

Maybe I missed it, but what is the deal with Douglas Jewelers? They went out of business this year and now they are open again. Is it the same owners.

That's good news about Sprouts. Maybe they can move into the old Albertsons and begin a renewal of that terrible Detroit/South Bronx style urban blight we've been hearing so much about.

IIRC, the old Albertson's is owned by HEB. The speculation on here was, they would not allow another grocery store to move into that space.
I saw some wild speculation about the HEB thing on "Yelp," but no real proof of that.
To be clear, the old Albertson's is LEASED by HEB, not owned by HEB. Big difference.
Noticed Bahama Buck's at Texas and Holleman was building the foundation. What's the status updates on Walgreens Tower Point and Staybridge Suites on University?

Apparently, it's just a "development opportunity", so it's not an actual plan, unfortunately. Besides, all the development in town seems to be in Tower Point area for the most part.
Somebody told me that HEB is using the old Albertsons for storage, and nothing will be moving into there. They probably leased it to keep it from being used for another grocery. That way, they don't have more competition. That would be a great location for a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Grocery. Not going to happen as long as HEB controls the property. That pretty well keeps the shopping center from filling up with other stores. You need a big draw for other stores to move in.

There's an "Xtreme Hitz" in the Villa Maria/2818 Shell (older one), an "urban clothing" place, Internet records indicate opening in March 2012 (but I don't remember it being open when I went to Blinn last summer).

It was a Holiday Inn until the mid-80's, The Forum private dorm(a sister property to University Tower) starting in the very late 80's or early 90's, I believe. Not sure when The Forum closed.
