Schweitzer is opening 12/3. It's just 1 lift that only services the front side, but it's a start.

Looking at least expensive option for lift tickets at Winter Park. Taking family for 2 days of skiing, 3rd and 4th of January.

Looked at straight day passes. Looked at the "flex" passes. Looking at the Ikon 2-day passes and it seems cheapest. 2 adults and 17 yo and 15 yo.

If anyone has "ins" or knowledge on how best to play this game, let me know.

Thanks

Is your price about $135 or $150? If so, that's about as cheap as you're gonna get them.

Edit* per day

Just looked at my 2 out of 3 day passes. $316 total so $158 total.

No discounts over 12yo.

IMO, you buy kids the cheapest thing you can find that fits their feet. You don't want them to be in pain, but they're going to outgrow them so fast, it's not worth buying a brand new boot.

Yep, know it will be around that. I think if we just buy 1 day from the resort, it's something like $234 or so per day. So $150 or less is reasonable relatively. What's the best path you've found or know of?

Just buy in advance for the days online. That's it.

What size? Got three pairs of k2 Indy-2 boots. Two 21.5 mondo and one 22.5 mondo. Welcome to borrow them. I'm in DFW. As long as they don't sell on eBay first. Welcome to buy if they're a match. $60/pair. Only used one season.

They're great!

J1 is softest build up to J4 stiffest.

Heres a good chart.

I'm pretty sure I'm heading your way week of 12/15. There's nothing on or coming to Hood Meadows in the next two weeks. Just inches of rain. Depressing as hell and I have a ton of PTO in December.

Should be a fun trip. Baker, Schweitzer, Whitefish and Hood Meadows all run pass swaps together. You get 3 days at each. I'll probably go Schweitzer > Whitefish > Big Sky? > Anthony Lakes?.

Hopefully they'll get some more runs opened up by then. Here's a quote from our ski race program director:

Quote:

As you might know by now, tomorrow is opening day at Schweitzer. The weather seems to have turned a corner for the better. While the mountain is opening up keep in mind that it is just Midway off the Basin Express where the resort has made some snow. Conditions will be very thin off the groomer so please be smart and be patient out there. It will also likely be crowded so play it safe and ski at the same pace of the surrounding guests.

Nice.

I'm starting to really cook. It might actually be for NYE. Planning with the wife tonight and she's over Sunriver/Bachelor for NYE - our tradition for the past 5 years. We skied Deer Valley last year for Christmas and she misses the schwank.

Her alternative was to hop back on Ikon and go to Sun Valley. I think we're landing on I drive PDX > Schweitzer (ski) > Bozeman (they fly in and I pick them up) > Big Sky (van life, ski + hot springs + Bozeman fun) > Sun Valley in the Village (maybe A-Lakes on the way back if I we need a stopover - we camp their sno park anyways on the drive from ID usually).

Wait, wait, wait.

Amtrak Empire Builder runs SEA/PDX > Sandpoint > Whitefish direct. I priced out next week and it's only $150 RT. It's a red-eye both ways (9 hours), so fairly time efficient. Comparably the drive is 7 hours, but eff driving through eastern WA. That drive is brutal. Amtrak has decent WIFI; I've worked from it a number of times when going to the SEA office.

$149/night in the Selkirk lodge.

We're still planning Big Sky via van, but I've historically burned a bunch of Ikon days at Bach (3.5 hr. drive). Schweitzer via passive/overnight travel is a very viable alternative for a quick 2-3 day ski Ikon for ~$500.

Also, super dope that Schweitzer allows overnight camping in the fire lot. I love it @ Meadows, Bach, A-Lakes Snoqualmie, Bogus. Most places have gotten rid of it.

That's pretty awesome ski bumming to camp in the lot. IMHO if it is leased national forest then a lot or two should be overnight public access.

I have limited experience on that line from living in Minot, it was rarely ever on time and often off by hours, just FYSA.

Full ****ing gas.

It's our land and the resorts exist for profit. Fair game, but our land. Same for any fed land. It should be for us.

Increase the price on foreigners at Yosemite, et al. It's ours friends, our taxes maintain it, so, so my Americans never see it. So over it.

How's it looking for my trip to Park City 12/19 - 12/23? We were hoping to ski three days but knew snowfall would be a risk..

Looking better than two days ago but still very limited. I think they only had three lifts going today. You'll be able to ski but it'll be limited and probably a hair crowded. Still better than not skiing.

Storm in Keystone today was wild. At one point, the wind and snow were blowing so hard my wife and could barely maintain visual contact as we were trying to get down off the mountain.

That little dude did nearly 10K feet of elevation. We were near the base and he went full yard sale at speed. Picked him and said let's go back. Instead he begged me to get on a chair lift 1 more time. So we did and he nailed it again.

Think I've got a hooked skier on my hands.
