IDK but its been pretty quiet in my circles. Even in WY outside the park only this one taken.

Word I am hearing is that it has been really tough. Sounds like bad rain and some flooding in parts of CO. Also heard from two separate people stating bulls have gone very quiet.

Heard the same in NM. Was listening to the Elk Talk with Randy/Cory yesterday and Cory said bugles were scarce in NM.

Quite a bit of rain the last week in the Craig/Meeker area but bugles at night are being heard. Its much cooler than opening weekend, low 30s in am and 70 in day. The next few days look pretty nice.

Thats one animal the points draw don't make sense to me unless the speed goats only hang out next to the highway because on my roadtrips to MT i count hundreds and hundreds each year.

I agree, I killed an almost booner pronghorn in a zero point unit but for 30 dollars a year I'll keep adding it to my western hunt piggy bank.

but let's say the gooberment did shut down, does that affect public hunting access? I've heard National Parks would shut down, just wasn't sure on access to National Forest areas.

I don't think so. Parks that have employees and visitor centers and operational hours, yes. But, I don't think your national forest will be closed.

Pretty sure the Flat Tops are getting snow today and tomorrow. 20-25 degree change today with that lovely winter rain. Guess Indian Summer is over. :/

Been awful quiet on here and amongst my other MTN Elk hunter circles. Seems like a big year for Grizzly bear attacks though, especially in MT.

26 days before my daughter gets a chance. I still have tags but my focus will be on helping her be successful and that will be plenty satisfying to me.

It is strange to say this, but my big game hunting is mostly over. For me anyway. Usually we draw some deer vouchers and usually I hunt first rifle with my son, but my wife drew a pretty special tag for first rifle, unexpectedly, in another area, and I need to go with her. She drew 61 first rifle bull. She got it on the hybrid draw.

So I turned my first rifle in for OTC archery. And it has been too long and I am too out of practice to be hunting archery elk. My cousin called a small bull in to me. Not a good set up. Very open. I hid behind a 3 foot oak bush as he called. Bull came, I really don't know how many points he had, 4 at best, but he had decent brow times, so that made him legal. I drew while the bush was between us, but he came around on high alert and saw me. Jumped way back but cousin got him stopped broadside. I adjusted my aim point, and sent one very prettily over his back. Right to left was perfect. He didn't go from 20 to 35, he went from 5 to 20. I suck judging in tall grass, and way too open to try the rangefinder.

Never had another opportunity archery. A buddy tried calling a bull I found, but one of his cows busted us. My cousin ended up killing a cow with his rifle.
