Nice. Just left Dallas. Headed to gunnison area 67. Will likely sleep somewhere around Trinidad tonight.

Driving out and it's 112. Cool mountain air can't get here fast enough.

Have 2 weeks planned if needed.

I'll let you know if I see any. AT&T works when you get above 11,300 around Stewart peak.

Great unit. Lots of access. Enjoy!

Was in it last fall for MD. Saw plenty of elk

Just had a shower after 8 days. No joy. Hard hard hunting. I think I put 8 miles and 2500' In yesterday alone. Rained on us every day and night. Saw several good bulls and got within 20 yards a couple times but no shot presented itself. Gonna have to leave it up to my 15yo daughter in rifle season. Bulls were not talking back. Heard a guy had to kill a Grizzly in self defense a couple miles from us over the ridge.

Paradise valley Montana.

I am selfish and won't go in to specifics sorry, but if somebody on here was interested in joining me next year with the capabilities to suffer I would be glad to discuss.

Yes that has to be it but the word we got off grid made it sound like the incident happened on 9-5.

That's not selfish. That is smart. Absolutely no reason to explain yourself on here. We get it.

This 6x7 came in silent on another hunter in our camp. I had one bigger as close but no pics. Both are still out there like ghosts in the woods. Hopefully one still around for my daughter in November.

Think that one is a 6x7! Pretty. Hope she gets one when she goes.

ETA: you did say 6x7. I read it as 6x6. My bad.

Crazy that there have been 3 attacks within a short timeframe.

It was the Tom Miner drainage event that we heard about while out very near there, just didn't get the dates right in the conversation.

The Grizzly range is expanding from Yellowstone and from Glacier. I believe the biologists are wanting those to groups to start cross breeding but there is a lot of population in between. I will try to find the current range map I looked at recently.

Our outfitters hate them like terrorists because they prey on the elk and tear up camp's costing them a lot of money. At his summer camp one year he lost 9 separate 1 gallon cans of white gas for the lanterns at $20/gallon. Bear bit every one open and spilled them out.

I am for the bear, an apex predator, that I have great respect for and no current fear. I have committed to myself that I will not shoot until sure its not a false charge, which at a minimum is gonna get me rolled up and and very possibly dead.

I do think they will start special permit hunting them in the near future but that may still be 3-5 years out until then their will be more tragic incidents with humans but not anything like the rate of traffic fatalities.

We were on one trail, where I could have taken a pic like this every 100'. It was as if the Griz was making a statement that this was his trail and we were being watched.

This is the way. Courage.

So I'm hunting archery elk in Colorado for the first time in about 6 years. My son wasn't really into it, so I've been rifle hunting with him since he was old enough. That was my plan this year too, but my wife drew a hybrid draw bull tag that normally takes 14 points with only 7 points. I've got to help her with her hunt, so I turned in my first season tag and got an archery tag. The ranch was covered up with elk the day it opened, when I was in Alaska. I come home and set one blind and one camera, gone.

Not nearly as cool as ttha's bull, but I shot my first bear last week in CO...

Edit to add screen grab of impact. That's my orange fletchings and the shadow of the arrow...

That's awesome! I've only seen one bear on all my western hunts (less Alaska). Shooting one with your bow is really cool!

Ha, thanks. I had only seen one other bear in the wild near Pagosa a few years ago, but didn't have a bear tag. This time we found a honey hole and saw 8 different bears during the week. Other than shooting this one, the highlight was watching a big ol' boar play in a pond and a pair of cubs fighting like children.

It's not easy, but figuring out what water hole they want to come to in the evening is a good start.

There are no bears in Pagosa. You must have seen a yellow lab.
