What is everyone thinking for 2023 out west?

Colorado Archery Elk (Unit 12/23/24)
Colorado Pronghorn (Unit 211)
Colorado Mule Deer 3rd Season with Stepdad for his 70th Birthday (Unit 12/13/23/24)

Wyoming Mule Deer

Will also be filming a goat hunt in Montana which will be an absolute blast.

If anyone is looking for CO help on deer or elk, let me know. Helped quite a few OB'ers last season get on good animals.

Been looking forward to this. Thank you for posting.

I plan to burn my Colo muley points this year for an archery tag. Of course I say this every year. That's my plan unless I draw an unexpected tag. After NWT in 2021 and Yukon in 2022, it's definitely a year to put boots on the ground in the lower 48 for a DIY hunt.

In.

Will put in for NM archery elk, but probably not get drawn as an unguided non-res, per usual.

After that, DIY CO archery elk or 2nd rifle.

Thanks for starting! Been wondering when someone would do so.

I'm probably looking at a preference points year unless an opportunity to hunt elk pops up between now and then.

If I do not draw my unit tag for archery, I may be looking to put a group together for OTC. They lowered the tags by 100 last year in my units, and I am told it will go down again by 50 in 2023.

Maybe OTC CO archery elk.

Might burn points for CO muley rifle. Not sure yet.

Possibly hunting Sonora mule deer with my hunting buddy. If we do that, we won't hunt muleys in CO.

I typically hunt the first week of archery and then take off MZ season, then guide last week of the season. I am only guiding mulies this year since starting new job and now turning house into a B&B during hunting season. Gonna be a busy year.

As of now apply in AZ and CO as always.

If no draws then probably

OTC Colorado Archery Elk and Mule Deer
OTC Arizona Mule Deer or Cous Deer

6 elk points in Colorado I'll probably use this year. I'm in a weird no-mans land, so likely will try MZ to get into a better unit and hit the end of the rut. Will do point for mule deer and pronghorn.

CO resident with 4 pts for everything, probably another year of building points holding out for 1st rifle in 49 for elk. No idea what I'm going to do for mule deer and pronghorn, I don't archery hunt anymore due to shoulder injuries.

You do know that AZ changed the OTC archery deer tag process for non-res, right? Those tags sold out in Dec.

My last resort if nothing works out. I had planned on doing it this year but baby was born late November so my wife would kill me if i went walking around for a few weeks in Arizona right now.

I'm in your shoes. Our baby girl was just born yesterday so I doubt monetarily and more important (wife time wise) will allow me to put in this year. I've got 3 points for antelope and 3 points for Mule Deer in Wyoming. I'd like to go bag my first antelope but probably gunna have to wait.

I'll buy Elk points for WY. Hopefully I can sneak away for the AZ OTC Mule deer trip next year. That is about all I will apply for, maybe apply for some UT Mule Deer points also, gonna see how my brothers hunt goes this year.

As of right now, I am down like George Constanza!!!

My opportunity to hunt monsters near the Sand Dunes disappeared. NFS has shifted to doing a "qualified volunteer" harvest on the game preserve there. That is their brilliant idea to reduce the herd size (because it has worked so very well in other places like the Bison on the North Rim…). This place has gone from an absolutely hidden gem of an elk opportunity to a crap shoot in a very short time. I'm so very greatful we did that hunt and got my Dad a big bull a few years ago. But it stings that my brother-in-law and I won't get to harvest bulls like that with my Dad there. Especially after all the work I put in to get access for several years. Poof… it's gone. Oh well, that's the game we play.

However, Lazarus we may need to touch base in late Feb to confirm. There might be some very significant changes for our fam in '23. Got something in the hopper, and I can't commit (or comment) until after the dust settles.

Choclabs- would you be open to connecting via email with me? I would love to know a little more about your experience with this outfitter. I'm looking for a mule deer for my Old Man.

My email is (redacted). Thanks so much!
