I think the freezing corn argument defiantly applies more to mallards. However, wiegon and pintails dry feed as well. Freezing waterfowl food up north does nothing but help us on the coast regardless of species.CS78 said:Shallowminded14 said:
In order to have a massive push of birds I don't think it just needs to get cold. I think the corn or other food source needs to freeze over. Dr. Duck did a podcast on this exact topic earlier this year but I cant find which one it was.
I think the northern will push down more birds for sure, but for a monumental push of birds we would need the food sources in the Midwest / Oklahoma need to freeze for an extended period of time
I might buy that argument for mallards. But what about the other 90% of ducks that don't dry feed?

First: wild duck only. Farm raised duck is awful.B-1 83 said:

Near Palacios and maybe 1/2 a mile from the coast… if you can find open water, throw a handful of decoys in it.

Fillet the breast with skin on. Make sure they are dry as possible either by using paper towels or letting them sit in the fridge on a rack for few hours. Salt and pepper or your favorite steak seasoning. Sear skin side down until crisp (~3 minutes for a big duck). Flip and cook to 135 degrees. Eat
