Just now getting back to Houston and trying to play catch-up so forgive me ... but IF this storm lands along the Texas coastline, what's the most likely timeframe?

Where are they flying to? Seems like it shouldn't be an issue for Corpus Saturday night.

Thanks. I told them not a hell's chance before even reading the responses. Just wanting some more confirmation. Flying from Lubbock.

Latest info this morning trends toward no impact in Galveston/Houston.
Quote:

Good morning. As of 4am CT, the system in the Gulf of Mexico has nearly organized into a tropical depression (named Barry), and likely will become one later this morning or early this afternoon. While Texas isn't entirely out of the woods, as there remains some uncertainty in the track and intensity forecast, this increasingly looks like a threatening situation for Louisiana. Because the state is next to Texas, and we have received so many questions from people living in, or traveling through Louisiana, we will continue to offer comprehensive coverage of Barry as the storm develops. If you're living in Houston, please continue to pay attention to forecasts for the next couple of days, as tropical weather invariably offers up surprises. However, it's probably safe to go about your business as usual this weekend.

SpaceCity WX and WeatherBell agreeing with NHC now. But then Mikes Weather just put this up. Still worth keeping an eye on for all of us around Houston

Past two days GFS has been more east almost every run and Euro has been more west almost every run. Looks like they flipped this morning. I haven't kept up with the UK much.

Models really do not do a good job until there is a closed center of circulation to pin point the initialization. Once that happens, the models can tighten up significantly.

I like these videos. He doesn't update very often and it's a bit more of a technical explanation but it's interesting and does a good job explaining some of the steering features.

It wont matter. They are undersized and not enough infrastructure to control this kind of event.

This. We replaced a lot of the hydraulic motors they had on the old ones and some of the new ones but it really wasn't that much. Plus with the amount of water that comes if it goes over the levees there is not much they can do. They installed some kind of mats that I have no idea what they do but it was part of the process to help. The areas that do not have the mats installed...the lower income areas. This storm may get political.

Just got back from NOLA. They had the worst rain and lightening I've experienced in a while yesterday morning. Street flooding from the 6 inches in an hour and a guy kayaking down the streets. We paid our bill and cut our trip short. Fyi, if you pay the hotel directly, they let you cancel. If you pay via a travel website, you don't get money back. And the hotel website was cheaper than 3rd party sites.

I would stay at the Best Western Plus on Rampart again near the FQ, if I ever had to go back. Nice staff of people that are fixing to suffer again from the looks of things. They had to work like hell to keep the lobby dry yesterday. No telling how bad it will get.

Trust the old man down in the Quarter. He was born in the rain on the Pontchartrain, underneath the Louisiana moon. He don't mind the strain of a hurricane, They come around every June.

He says the high black water, is a devil's daughter. She's hard, she's cold and she's mean. But nobody taught her, it takes a lot of water to wash away New Orleans

Was watching Weather Underground last night and saw on the crawl that "118 of 120 pumps were operational"

Maybe so, but consider CNN says new orleans spent 2.1 mil to remove the statues, which was was sold to the tax payers (both of them) that the removal would be paid by private funds. The private funds amounted to $170,000, leaving the tax payers in the hook for over 90% of the 'free' revisionist program.

$2 mil would have bought a lot of upgrades, cleaning, maintenance and repairs in an honest system, but in a blue city, you see what it does...
