Scouting trip was semi success. Found one nice bachelor group of bucks in a pocket, a few elk "dots" in the distance, and a few other deer. Not quite as many critters as we hoped. Did find some terrain that looked "elky", they just weren't there.

Door to door at the truck was 41hrs. Covered 27 miles and almost 5k vert. Didn't make camp Friday night till almost 1am. Caught cutthroat while it snowed on us on Saturday. Yesterday was 11.5mi pack out. It kicked our butts, and that was good.

Did the 22's this am. I really should have built up to it... but at least I got a baseline. Not where I hope to be, but honestly better than I expected for my first time trying at all.

Time: 32:13

I had an incline in my runs: sprint uphill - Lunge Jumps/Push-ups - sprint back downhill - Squat Jumps/Renegades Row's w/ 15# - sprint uphill... & then try not to die as I walk/roll back downhill to my driveway.

Looking forward to seeing what I can shave off of the time. The hardest part for me was the upper body stuff. Man, I would rather flip and do the great number of pushups and rows first, while I was "fresh"...

Personally- I read it as total. For the lunge jumps, I switch which foot is forward on the jump, so I alternated till I hit 20. Same thing with the rows. Maybe I'm cheating, but I don't care. My glutes are made enough at me for now!

I did the 22s yesterday in 26:28. I used 20# dumbbells and assumed the lunge jump reps were total (not per side). I hadn't done any plyo type moves in a while due to a hamstring injury. That said, the rows towards the end of the ladder slowed me down the most. I think I should be able to cut time on all three runs and the rows next time I try it. Great workout.

Might have lucked into some access on some rough canyon country in SE Colorado. It's a plains unit.

Not sure how much time I'll plan to spend out there, but I intend to go a couple days at least.

You're about the "luckiest" sumbeetch I ever heard of when it comes to this kinda thing. If it's in the right plains unit, you know you can buy an otc elk either sex rifle tag that's good for 5 months, right? That's a List C tag so you can still also have an OTC Archery Elk Either Sex tag as well (List A tag).

Got twenty loads sold yesterday and we'll ship them next week. Got a handful of misc cattle to film and sell. Three real estate deals to get across the finish line in August.

Yeah, about that... After much thought and strategery, I'm probably gonna pass on that. I'm already in the best elk hunting shape of my life. I'm eating right and working out pretty damn hard. I've got nothing to prove and I just don't see any real upside to doing it at this point, esp with the season right around the corner. And furthermore, I don't give a damn how much crap you people give me about it. Hard pass.
