Gotta start somewhere and at least you started. I just thought about that fitness test...and it took me more than 40 minutes just to think about it. I'm gonna try it though. I need a couple more weeks to recover from a rib injury then I'll give it a go and post my shame.

I've been eating (95% of the time) only deer meat, fish, fruits and nuts, and vegetables and cheese while drinking only water or coffee for the last month. No fast food, no bread, chips, sweets or frozen or canned stuff. I'll mix in some scrambled eggs and bacon from time to time.

Been biking for 30 - 60 minutes per day for the last 3 weeks and started hiking stairs with a 35# pack about a week ago. Did 20 mins on the bike early this morning. Did 20 minutes on the bike tonight, then ran a half mile in 3m50sec, did 10 more mins on the bike, then 30mins of stairs with the 35# pack and a 5# hatchet in each hand.... alternating 5 mins straight on the stairs with a 1 min walk/water break over those 30mins.

I don't think any of this is really all that extreme but it's already made a significant difference.

I'm pretty much training for the 22 test at this point, which I plan to do on or around the middle of next month. My goal is just to break 40.

Edit- hatchets only weigh 2# each. Need more hatchet power.

the workout ive been consistent with is 10-20 min of hard rowing and then stairmaster w 40lbs in my pack until failure. ive gotten some funny looks from folks (small town gym no anonymity) laid out on the floor next to my pack.

but since about a month before the baby got here ive been eating everything though.

So I've recently discovered the beauty of the hunting related podcast. One of the absolute best I've been listening to lately is The Rich Outdoors with Cody Rich. Elk heavy... archery heavy... public land heavy... great guests with interesting real life stories... Wapiti Wednesdays... some muley stuff. Must listen.

Buddy texted me yesterday at lunch to go on a scouting trip looking for alpine muleys, elk, and catch some cutty's this weekend. Canceled plans, worked extra hours yesterday, did all the weekend tasks for my upcoming wedding, packed, and now just waiting on 2pm to get off work.

Should make it to the trailhead by 830. Get some headlamp hiking in to camp where we want to glass from tomorrow.

Next weekend, 3 day scouting trip to a different unit to scout and hang game cameras.

The time is now here.

Ya I need an event to be a little more in my wheelhouse for me to be elite...eating watermelons or sorting cattle. Something along those lines.
